With Opening Day less than a week away, we thought that the offseason was over. But, the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers have made a high-profiled swap, with closer Craig Kimbrel going west for outfielder AJ Pollock.
The one piece of the puzzle that can use some improvement is the bullpen, specifically at closer. Per beat writer for the Washington Post Jesse Dougherty, the Jays have acquired Brad Hand from the Nationals.
While the reporters were observing pregame warmups, there was an odd site in Seattle prior to the game between the Houston Astros and the Seattle Mariners. Marcus Stroman pitched in what was most likely his final game in a Toronto Blue Jays jersey on Wednesday, and his trade stock rose even farther. In his final start for the Blue Jays against the Cleveland Indians, Stroman was very effective, going seven strong innings and only surrendering five hits, one run (earned), and walking one. His offense didn’t do him any favors, as the Blue Jays lost 4-0. Following the game and into Thursday, he tweeted and retweeted several tweets about his appreciation to the Toronto fans. About a week or so ago, he also took out any reference to the Blue Jays from his Twitter page. Take it with a grain of salt, but he also tweeted something that could be a clue to where he ends up, or maybe he even knows something. So at this point, the question isn’t IF he’s traded but WHERE. So let me tell you where I think he ends up.
