Trade Packages for Mike Clevinger

In case you did not know, the Cleveland Indians are pissed off at Mike Clevinger and Zach Plesac.

Both players broke MLB’s COVID protocol by going out in downtown Chicago after a game with the White Sox. Plesac was caught trying to sneak back into the hotel and was sent home for quartine purposes.

Clevinger on the other hand, lied and kept it a secret that he also went out that night. Well, that didn’t work out. Clevinger and Plesac drove up to Detriot to apologize to the team in person to the team. They were scolded and then sent down to the alternate training site.

Now that’s where it gets interesting. If Clevinger is down in Lake County for 19 days, his free-agency will be delayed a year due to service time. Plesac would lose a year of Arbitration. So I hope it was a fun night boys, because it sure was an expensive night.

Since Clevinger will be 30 next season, I don’t think it would be a bad idea to try and move him to gain a bat and a prospect. Clevinger is great, but he has lost the trust of his team and the Indians have a dominating pitching staff.

Here, I came up with the best trade packages that make sense for Clevinger.

Yankees send: Miguel Andujar, Deivi Garcia, and Anthony Seigler

Indians Send: Clevinger

That is a lot for the Yankees to give up, but Clevinger is that type of player and the Yankees are going to need an extra arm in that rotation. Could you imagine a starting five of Gerrit Cole, Clevinger, Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka, and (insert whomever here.) That would be scary.

For the Indians, they add a player who has been linked to them for several years in Andujar. They would have to play around with the lineups to get Andujar in the lineup but it’s a good move to add a bat in a struggling lineup. Garcia is a big blow for the Yankees farm system but I think they are more worried about capitalizing on this window that they kicked down than what five years looks like from now. Seigler is the Yankees top catching prospect and a position that the Indians can add more depth in.

Braves Trade: Cristian Pache, Kyle Muller, Logan Brown

Indians Trade: Clevinger, Nick Sandlin

I had to throw in an extra arm going to Atlanta because of how highly I think of Pache. The Indians have a good group of infield talent that will be coming up but need some help in the outfield. Adding Pache to be that next “When he gets here” type player will be a great upgrade for the Indians. I can see the Indians asking for another outfield prospect or even an MLB now player, but I think this is a strong package to meet the needs of both sides.

Angles Trade: D’Shawn Knowles, Oliver Ortega, Jahmai Jones

Indians Trade: Clevinger

This trade focuses strictly on the Indians future lineup. They can afford to lose Clevinger and not skip a beat with their young pitching talent. The Indians address their future and the Angles get a pitcher, a position problem that they just chose to ignore in the offseason.
