Continuing our series, let’s take a look at the NL Central champs from last year. The Milwaukee Brewers are obviously in win-now mode, but their starting pitching may be a little light. More on that in the Team Preview coming next month. For now, let’s dive into the top guys they have in their system. We may actually see a couple of them this season.
The Detroit Tigers are coming off back to back 98-loss seasons. However, the future is beginning to look bright, as the club has the No.18 ranked farm system in the big leagues. Led by a plethora of pitchers and outfielders, the club is looking to move into the future on a positive note.
The Los Angeles Dodgers currently have 4 of their top prospects firmly solidified in MLB’s Top 100 Prospects List. The Dodgers farm system ranks as the 8th best in baseball, with at least 4 of their top prospects having the potential to make an impact in 2019. With a deep minor league bench, this team is stacked and should be competitive for years to come.
Even after graduating the likes of Aaron Judge, Gleyber Torres, and Miguel
Andújar from their prospect list the last couple seasons, while also trading away their No. 1 Prospect at the time, Justus Sheffield, to the Mariners this offseason, the Yankees still have a solid farm system with pieces primed to make their debuts soon. When it comes to the Yankees, they are never in full rebuild mode, so they focus more on grooming raw talent. Some of these names will and already have been mentioned in trade discussions, as the Yankees’ championship window is wide open right now. Now let’s get into the list!

After five straight subpar seasons of under-.500 records following Dusty Baker’s exit, the Reds are primed to make some noise in 2019. With a solid farm system, ranked No. 6 in all of baseball, 4 of their top 5 in MLB Pipeline’s Top 100, they have the pieces to end their rebuild and contend for years to come.
Keeping it fresh in the National League West, we transition our series to the desert, to dive into the Arizona Diamondbacks’ top five prospects. Contrary to an assumed belief, the D’backs system is loaded with solid talent, led by a young right-handed pitcher looking to lead his team over the next decade.
The Tampa Bay Rays have developed an impressive Minor league system. They are currently ranked the #4 best farm team in baseball, with their Top 6 Prospects all solidified in MLB’s Top 100 Prospect List. While they have efficiently developed their homegrown talent, they have done equally as well among their international signings. The Rays are on the rise and they have established themselves as contenders for years to come.
There are teams like the San Diego Padres and Atlanta Braves that have dedicated years of losing to rebuilding their farm systems. Then there are other teams who have unheralded minor league systems featuring quality talent. As I began delving into the Texas Rangers, I realized this was the predicament they were in. Not a single major publication has the Rangers within their top-5 minor league systems, but nevertheless, they credit the organization for acquiring and developing solid amateur talent.
The Braves entered the 2018 season with little to no expectations on their Postseason chances. If anything, they were only expected to fight for a Wild Card spot. The one thing Braves fans were excited for was seeing the rise of the No. 2 Prospect in all of baseball at the time, Ronald Acuña Jr.
Just a few years ago the Cubs farm system was stacked. Getting praise and recognition from nearly every analyst and scout. Fast forward a few years and most of those highly touted Cubs prospects have either graduated to the big leagues or have been traded for MLB ready players.
