The baseball season is a grind. It’s every single day. We will approach DFS the same way and be winners at the end of the season even if we have our hot streaks and slumps. Let’s dive in on the plays for today.
The San Francisco Giant even-year magic came to an end in 2016. They had won the World Series in 2010, 2012, and 2014. In 2016 they beat the New York Mets in the WC game on a Conor Gillaspie 3-run homer off Jeurys Familia in the ninth and a CG shutout by who else but MadBum himself. That year they couldn’t get past the Cubs. For the past two years, they haven’t been close to good. With an aging team and not much in the farm system, let’s take a look at what the Giants have in store this year.
The Seattle Seahawks finished the season at 10-6 and got themselves to a Wild Card berth. They wound up losing to the Dallas Cowboys 24-22 but for a team that wasn’t supposed to do much, they had a nice season. What can they do to topple the Rams this year in the NFC West?
We all know how the New Orleans Saints had their season come to an end. Personally, as a Saints fan, I could write a thousand-word article on how they got screwed, but that’s water under the bridge at this point. Let’s take a look at their season and what they need to do to take the next step to the big game in 2019.
The Minnesota Twins have been up and down the past few years. In a weak AL Central, they may have a shot at the playoffs if things go right. Let’s take a look at the boys up north and if fans will have something to cheer about at Target Field this year.
The Toronto Blue Jays are rebuilding. There’s no secret about that. They are in a tough division with the big boys in New York and Boston. There’s no secret about that either. Let’s take a look at what we will see on the field this year from the team up north because the secret to success lies partly in the kids on their way to the Rogers Centre.
Continuing our series, let’s take a look at the NL Central champs from last year. The Milwaukee Brewers are obviously in win-now mode, but their starting pitching may be a little light. More on that in the Team Preview coming next month. For now, let’s dive into the top guys they have in their system. We may actually see a couple of them this season.
The Scorecrow would like to congratulate the four players who were elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame tonight. Although there is always debate on who should be in and who shouldn’t, these four have proven worthy to 75% of the voters and deserve to be celebrated. See you in July at 25 Main Street in Cooperstown gentlemen.
Andruw Jones is looking to improve on the 7.3% of the vote he received last year. This is his second year on the ballot and he is not trending in the right direction. That is a shame as he was an amazing centerfielder but will he get that plaque in Cooperstown.
The Major League Baseball Hall of Fame ballot is currently stacked with many deserving candidates. While the voters are limited to ten, there will be players falling off the ballot, unfortunately. Lance Berkman may be one of them after only a year.
A legend died today. Melvin Leon Stottlemyre was a baseball icon for New York baseball. He lived most of his life for the pitchers that threw in the Bronx and Queens. Today we say goodbye to Mel after his long fight with cancer.
