Jackson Rutledge was born on April 1, 1999 to Josh and Susan Rutledge. Rutledge attended Rockwood Summit High School in St. Louis, Missouri. As a senior in high school, Rutledge went 7-1 with a 1.19 ERA, striking out 84 batters in 41 innings. As a freshman in college, Rutledge attended Arkansas university where he would only pitch 15.1 innings during his freshman season. He was left off of the postseason roster which prompted him to transfer to San Jacinto JC.

Andrew Vaughn Draft Preview

Andrew Vaughn is a first baseman at the University of California. He was born on April 3rd, 1998 to Diana and Toby Vaughn. Vaughn was a four-year varsity player for Maria Carrillo High School in Santa Rosa, California. He made the honor roll at Maria Carrillo all eight semesters that he attended the school. He won the North Bay League Freshman of the Year in 2013, Sophomore of the Year in 2014, Junior of the Year in 2015, and North Bay Player of the Year in 2016. He surprisingly only hit one career home run in high school, but he had an impressive career stat line hitting .380 and only striking out 15 times in four years. At Cal, Vaughn won the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year award in 2017 and was a first-team freshman All-American. He spent the summer of 2017 on the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team and won team MVP honors after the U.S. beat Japan. As a sophomore in 2018, Vaughn won the Golden Spikes award as the best amateur baseball player in the country. He also won National Player of the Year. Vaughn tied the Cal record for home runs in a single season with 23. Clearly, he is no stranger to winning awards. Vaughn is one of the most decorated baseball players in the country with endless potential.

Yasiel Puig’s Newest Struggle

I’m going to lead off this whole article by saying that I’m a big Yasiel Puig guy. His combination of hitting, power, and speed was supposed to make him an early round talent year after year, only to see him struggle with injuries or playing time issues. Last year, when he played, he was fantastic, hitting .267/.327/.494 and accumulating 23 home runs and 15 stolen bases in just 444 plate appearances with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Then, in a weird salary dump type deal, Puig was sent in a trade to the Cincinnati Reds. As the offseason wore on, it looked more and more like there would be a full-time role for Puig in Cincy. Puig stans like me rejoiced. #PuigYourFriend indeed.

What’s Wrong with Jack Flaherty?

Jack Flaherty seems to be figuring it out. On 4/22, Flaherty had 18 swinging strikes (40% CSW) with ten total strikeouts in a win at home against the Brewers (6.0 IP 3 H 4 ER 1 BB 10 K). Flaherty was able to dominate with impressive fastball command which has eluded him all season, racking up eight of his 18 swinging strikes on his four-seam fastball. I am a Flaherty owner and have long loved his polish and prospect pedigree, but something is wrong.

Reds’ Top Prospect Getting the Call

Center fielder Nick Senzel, the Cincinnati Reds’ top prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 5 overall prospect, is getting the call to the show on Friday. The Reds are sitting in the cellar of the NL Central with a record of 13-18, as of May 2. Senzel will be a boost to the Reds offense and hopefully boost Cincinnati’s attendance at Great American Ballpark. Their average attendance per game so far this year is just over 15,000. The Reds offense right now is ranked 25th in the league overall, and last in batting average with .210. Their best hitters are Joey Votto and Jesse Winker, with batting averages of .232 and .224, respectively. Winker has 13 RBI and 8 home runs with a .805 OPS.

The Braves Need to Sign Craig Kimbrel ASAP

The Braves bullpen is in desperate need of help, holding a 5.17 ERA, allowing almost six walks per nine, and allowing a .297 batting average on balls in play (BABIP) in 62.2 innings pitched this season. The Braves have also lost their closer, Arodys Vizcaino, to season-ending shoulder surgery, which opens the door even more for them to look internally and externally for improvements on the bullpen. What’s an external option, you might ask? Well, it couldn’t be the guy who saved 42 games last year while pitching to a 2.74 and striking out 96 at the age of 30, could it? No way that guy is still a free agent, right? Someone had to have signed him by now, three weeks into the regular season. Well no one has, and Craig Kimbrel is still a free agent, and now is the perfect time for him to return to the team he started with and won the Rookie of the Year with.
