This season has not gone well for the Los Angeles Lakers, but that might be just a bit of an understatement as the Lakers are currently sitting in the 11th seed in the Western Conference with playoff hopes fading fast. Luke Walton has been criticized throughout the season by fans and media alike, and it is believed among NBA circles that Magic Johnson already has a replacement in mind.
Here are my four takeaways from Wednesday night’s 91-84 Heat victory over the Charlotte Hornets.

The Boston Celtics are coming off a very disappointing week. They went 1-3, they defeated the struggling Washington Wizards and lost to the Houston Rockets, Toronto Raptors and Portland Trailblazers. They are all high-level teams, but they were very disappointing performances from the C’s end.
Although early impressions of the 2019 rookie class suggest that it is one of the strongest and deepest in recent memory, the latest crop to enter the NBA will be defined by two players who will be compared meticulously throughout their careers. Ever since the night of the 2018 draft, Trae Young and Luka Doncic were destined to be intrinsically linked.

As we get closer to March, we begin to near the end of the college careers of many of the best players across the country. Bol Bol has already declared for the draft, Zion Williamson may have just played his last game before his NBA journey begins, and Ja Morant is all but guaranteed to become the first top-five pick the Ohio Valley Conference has produced since Jim Baechtold, all the way back in 1952, in a few months’ time. But I’m not interested in talking about those players, at least not in this segment.
The Los Angeles Lakers are going through a tough time period currently. They have lost three of their last five games to teams below .500. Their opponents are averaging 118 points in those losses which would rank second to last in defensive rankings. Despite the Lakers troubles, Brandon Ingram has been a key bright spot during this stretch.
It is hard to have a time frame on when a player is showing you something more than they did the previous season or previous game. Second-year Atlanta Hawks Forward John Collins has done just that with his play in his sophomore season. His hard work and improvements haven’t gone unnoticed as he was selected to take part in the NBA Rising Stars Challenge Game and made his debut in the Slam Dunk Contest as part of the All-Star weekend.
