The MLB offseason was an interesting one due to free agency, meaning the lack thereof. Some veterans, expecting big pay-days, had to settle for less than expected and a smaller number of years, quite a few noticeable acquisitions only received one-year contracts. We’re over a month into the new season, and there are still players seeking employment, including Dallas Keuchel.
Every Thursday or Friday we will take a look back on the life and career of a player. You will get some background, an iconic moment, and plenty of stats. As voted on by the Twitter community, today we look back at Kenny Lofton.
The Braves bullpen is in desperate need of help, holding a 5.17 ERA, allowing almost six walks per nine, and allowing a .297 batting average on balls in play (BABIP) in 62.2 innings pitched this season. The Braves have also lost their closer, Arodys Vizcaino, to season-ending shoulder surgery, which opens the door even more for them to look internally and externally for improvements on the bullpen. What’s an external option, you might ask? Well, it couldn’t be the guy who saved 42 games last year while pitching to a 2.74 and striking out 96 at the age of 30, could it? No way that guy is still a free agent, right? Someone had to have signed him by now, three weeks into the regular season. Well no one has, and Craig Kimbrel is still a free agent, and now is the perfect time for him to return to the team he started with and won the Rookie of the Year with.
After some time away to reconfigure the Stream Machine for in-season matchup data (as well as taking some time off for personal reasons), I’m ready to roll out some new streaming options for the weekend matchups. As I promised earlier, I will do a check in at the end of the month in order to show the kind of stats you can get from your streaming starters. It’s important to remember that this is a season-long project, and early season streaming options are hard to figure out, as we don’t have a representative sample of in-season data until later on. Regardless, here are my picks for the weekend matchups.
The baseball season is a grind. It’s every single day. We will approach DFS the same way and be winners at the end of the season even if we have our hot streaks and slumps. Next week I will put up my season numbers and will track them as we go along. For today though, let’s dive right in.

We have five games to build a lineup from with games beginning at 7:10 eastern. Toronto at Boston, N.Y. The Braves entered the 2018 season with little to no expectations on their Postseason chances. If anything, they were only expected to fight for a Wild Card spot. The one thing Braves fans were excited for was seeing the rise of the No. 2 Prospect in all of baseball at the time, Ronald Acuña Jr.
Andruw Jones is looking to improve on the 7.3% of the vote he received last year. This is his second year on the ballot and he is not trending in the right direction. That is a shame as he was an amazing centerfielder but will he get that plaque in Cooperstown.
Gary Sheffield was a Right-handed power hitter that was known for having one of the quickest bats in the game. This marks his 5th year on the Hall of Fame ballot. Will he get enough love from the Baseball Writers Association of America to get inducted this year?
