The Rookie of the Year race is heating up and the final weeks of the NBA’s regular season are upon us.
This week we will be checking on on two rookie point guards looking to make a name for themselves in this league.
Without further ado, here is your Rookie Report for the week of March 11, 2019.
Let me get this out of the way before I say anything else: Trae Young will not be Rookie of the Year.
In part one of this weeks’ Rookie Report we took a look at Marvin Bagley III and the impressive work he did against two of the most imposing teams in the Western Conference.

In part two we’ll head over to the Eastern Conference where Trae Young had two very impressive overtime performances.
Although early impressions of the 2019 rookie class suggest that it is one of the strongest and deepest in recent memory, the latest crop to enter the NBA will be defined by two players who will be compared meticulously throughout their careers. Ever since the night of the 2018 draft, Trae Young and Luka Doncic were destined to be intrinsically linked.
It is hard to have a time frame on when a player is showing you something more than they did the previous season or previous game. Second-year Atlanta Hawks Forward John Collins has done just that with his play in his sophomore season. His hard work and improvements haven’t gone unnoticed as he was selected to take part in the NBA Rising Stars Challenge Game and made his debut in the Slam Dunk Contest as part of the All-Star weekend.
With NBA All-Star Weekend looming to start the week, NBA was cut short this week with the weeks’ action ending on Thursday night. This week we’ll be checking in on Cleveland’s “young bull” Collin Sexton. Next, we’ll be checking in on Trae Young and his career night against the visiting Los Angeles Lakers. After that, we will head to the desert for DeAndre Ayton’s 20-point performance against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Last night, the Atlanta Hawks got a win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. A win over such a powerhouse Thunder team is a great sign for a young Hawks squad. Second-year player John Collins and rookie point guard Trae Young led the way for Atlanta.
