Phew, football is back and will be here to stay for every weekend until February. Week 1 of the new NFL season has now concluded and we’ve already experienced a fair share of memorable moments. Week 1 is now in the books and with that we can start to find trends. But first a little Greek mythology lesson. Have you ever heard of the Cerberus? It’s a three-headed dog that guards the gates of Hades.
Week one is officially in the books and to the surprise of no one, there were fireworks everywhere. As is normally the case, week one brought about upsets, disappointments and shocking performances. To quote the great Phil Collins, “I can feel it coming in the air tonight”. That’s right, the NFL season is upon us and what better way to get things started then with the initial installment of The Scorecrow Sports NFL Power Sixteen.
The Philadelphia Eagles had a fantastic season last year, considering they won the Super Bowl. They started off 11-1 through 12 weeks last year and ended at 13-3. They could’ve easily gone 14-2 but made the smart decision to rest their starters for Week 17. The question is…can they repeat?
2017 was a bad year for injuries in the NFL. A number of notable players were sidelined for prolonged periods of time and hope to return to pre-injury form in 2018. Some have already made it into action during the preseason and others are still working their way back. Here is a look at some of the most notable names on the NFL injury report.
For Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz the 2018 preseason is more like an extended rehab session. Wentz is returning from a torn ACL that kept him out of the entire playoff run and eventual Super Bowl win last season for the Eagles. Wentz has been a partial participant throughout training camp, taking part in individual and 7 on 7 drills, but has been only an observer for full-team drills. It is expected that Wentz will not take part in any preseason game action, however, he is still on target to start Week one.
