The Baltimore Orioles will make their first pick tonight to start off the First-Year Player Draft. The number of picks varies from the Arizona Diamondbacks having four in the first 34 to the Boston Red Sox not picking until #43. There are many things for teams to consider when deciding who to take. Signability based on commitment and/or bonus pool money is a key. Teams shouldn’t and generally don’t draft to need as in other sports because a need today may not be one a few years down the line when these kids will be ready to hit the Show. As previously mentioned, the Twins are the best team in the league. The team has won ten of their last eleven, and in result, they are the only team to hold a double-digit lead in their division. This well- balanced team has outstanding pitching from Jose Berrios, Martin Perez, and Jake Odorizzi to complement a line-up that features Jorge Polanco, C.J. Cron, Eddie Rosario, our feature this week; Max Kepler. Kepler led the league this week in average (.588), Slugging (1.118), OPS (1.737), and On-base percentage (.619). The German-born son of two ballet dancers has .276 average in 2019, forty-eight points greater than for his career.

As you can see from the stats, Adley Rutschman has made significant improvements from his Freshman campaign in 2017 to where he is now. He was previously drafted in the 40th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners. But what makes Adley Rutschman so good? What are his weaknesses? And finally, where can we expect him to land come draft day on June 3rd?
Every Major League Baseball club has that player that they just cannot thrive without. This series of articles will not always talk about the best player from each team, or even the player with the highest WAR from each team, but will discuss the one player who is a presence both on the field and in the clubhouse, and the player that the team can’t thrive without.
If we are being honest, all I have to do is say “yikes” and that would be my preview of this team. Just an absolutely terrible ball-club. Hard to believe that only a few years ago, the Orioles had Manny Machado, Chris Davis (when he was good) Adam Jones, and Matt Wieters. This team reached the ALCS in 2014. So how were they this past season? 47-115 and finished dead-last in the AL East for the second straight year. This will be a painful process, but let’s take a look at what the Orioles will field this season.
The Baltimore Orioles are coming off a terrible season, one of the worst in recent memory for any team, and while the club is still a way away from being competitive, the future is undoubtedly bright. As a franchise, the Orioles have only two contracts greater than $10 million on their payroll currently: Chris Davis and Mark Trumbo. As the team is moving into the next wave of future talent, team brass and fans alike should be excited for the future of the franchise.
On February 8th, 2008, the Seattle Mariners pulled the trigger on a deal with the Baltimore Orioles to acquire Erik Bedard, a southpaw who finished 5th in the 2007 Cy Young voting. By all accounts, it was a good move for a Mariners franchise which was looking to end a long playoff drought. The price Seattle paid – pitching prospects Kam Mickolio and Chris Tillman, along with reliever George Sherrill and a young Adam Jones – seemed reasonable. That was 11 years ago. That trade is now considered one of the best in Orioles history, vice-versa for the Mariners.
Credit that to Adam Jones.
As Hall of Fame votes continue to come out, Curt Schilling is next on our list. The former All-Star starting pitcher enjoyed an illustrious 20-year career between five different big league clubs. Looking at his seventh year on the ballot, how does Schilling stack up against the greats and what are his chances?
