The Cleveland Browns finished the 2018-2019 season with a 7-8-1 record barely missing the playoffs and John Dorsey knew it was time to make a splash to help the Browns acquire that piece that could put them over the top. It was rumored that he was working towards making a big move and that’s when it was first rumored by many that Odell Beckham Jr. could be a possibility.
Entering 2018 the Pirates had many question marks surrounding the future of this team. Franchise icon Andrew McCutchen and ace Gerrit Cole were traded away for prospects. As a result, the expectations in Pittsburgh were low and another rebuild seemed to be underway. The Pirates failed to make the playoffs however many of their young players took steps forward. Led by a talented rotation this group could be a sleeper team in the NL Central.
Sleepers are dead. Long live sleepers! In the information age that we live in, there’s just no such thing as sleepers. However, if you dig around long enough, you can find some players that people might not be paying as much attention to as they should. Enticing, no? Let’s dig around the mid-to-late round hitters and see if we can turn over some overlooked guys that may have underachieved last year.

If you have lived under a rock for the last few weeks or been out of the country on extended leave, the Philadelphia Phillies signed Bryce Harper to a 13 year, $330 million contract, which is the largest contract in baseball history and makes him one of the highest paid athletes on the planet. Even without the Harper signing, the Phillies have had one of the best off-seasons in recent memory, signing one of the best hitting catchers in the game, while also adding some clarity to their bullpen. And it doesn’t stop there.
It’s a new year and expectations are high in Oakland entering the 2019 season. The A’s surprised the baseball world last year as they finished with ninety-seven wins in a year they were supposed to rebuild. With the A’s young players getting more experience they could again be a sleeper team this coming season.
The Boston Celtics are coming off a great winning week, in which they went 3-0. Gordon Hayward showed some great signs so far on the team’s West coast trip.
The Los Angeles Chargers finished last season with a 12-4 record. Injuries caught up to the Chargers yet again, Jason Verrett and Hunter Henry were both out during the regular season. Denzel Perryman went down mid-season, Brandon Mebane had terrible news. His newborn child passed away, which forced him to miss a few games, and that was completely understandable. But, the Chargers were able to find the next man up every time. Derwin James can easily be a franchise player; Chargers have great young talent to build on, including veterans who can lead them to a possible Super Bowl run, led by Philip Rivers.
It is time for a gut check if you are the Chicago Blackhawks. They are in the fight of their lives, being EIGHT points out of a spot as of now, it is going to take a lot of hard work and determination. Alright, with that being said, what are the chances the Hawks break in to the playoffs? While the Chicago Blackhawks are my team, I have to stop and be realistic here. They took two out of a possible six points on their last road trip in California. I feel as if the team is out of gas, and running out of time to make the playoffs. Here’s why….
The Boston Celtics are coming off a very disappointing week. They went 1-3, they defeated the struggling Washington Wizards and lost to the Houston Rockets, Toronto Raptors and Portland Trailblazers. They are all high-level teams, but they were very disappointing performances from the C’s end.
