The search for optimal players on tonight’s slate has been narrowed down to three games, New Jersey at Calgary, Washington at Florida and Pittsburgh at the surging New York Islanders. Other games to monitor with high implied totals are the Blackhawks home to the Canucks and even the Kings and Senators squaring off in Ottawa. Let’s get right into it and make some Ice Picks!
The calendar has turned over another month and as it does we are starting to find out the true identities of certain teams which lends us well in the world of DFS. We can finally draw some, not all, conclusions on certain teams. For tonight, three games are really piquing my interest. Buffalo at Washington, Detroit at Carolina and Philadelphia at New Jersey. Ten game slates are sometimes hard to decipher. There are many matchups to consider and numbers to sort through. The most important thing is to not play too many lineups because you can’t decide between lines to play or narrow your overall player pool.
Welcome to the first edition of Five For Thought! Each week, I will give you five things to look for in the week to come. This week is the opening week in the NHL, so there will certainly be some interesting storylines to watch. I hope everyone is excited because the NHL season is upon us!
Only a few weeks left of regular season NHL DFS. Thursday brings us a decent helping of games to choose from. My leading target might come as a surprise, Florida at Ottawa, Florida has been trounced in some goal fests recently and the Sens have played better lately as their bevy of young talent has been producing. The other high projected high event games are Chicago at San Jose, the Islanders at Winnipeg, and Washington looking for two in a row against the Hurricanes.
The choices are not so obvious this time around for DraftKings selections for Tuesday. Bound to be quite a bit of variance, so perhaps GPP’s is the way to go tonight. My top game to target is Washington at New Jersey followed by Toronto at Nashville, and Columbus at Calgary. Here we go!

Pittsburgh and Washington are on my radar(surprise, surprise) as well as Tampa Bay and SanJose(more of the usual suspects). Here are the games in order preference: Penguins at Sabres, Lightning at Red Wings, Panthers at Sharks and Capitals at Flyers. Here we go!
We have a decent size offering of games to choose from tonight. A couple obvious high profile games lead the way. Pittsburgh is home to the red-hot Washington Capitals, winners of seven straight. The struggling Winnipeg Jets(4-5 in there last nine) host the smooth sailing San Jose Sharks(6-2-1 in there last nine). Our other set of games appears to be more one-sided, but still valuable in terms of fantasy point production. Montreal hosts Detroit and New Jersey visits Calgary. Time to break it down!
Two surprise teams sit atop the top three spots in the Metropolitan Division in the New York Islanders and the Carolina Hurricanes with the Washington Capitals right there at the top with them. The Pittsburgh Penguins are just a single point away from third and the Columbus Blue Jackets are three points away with a game in hand on each of them. The Philadelphia Flyers are now slipping away, they are seven points back from playoff contention. The New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils round out the division and have been out of the playoff picture for a good portion of the season. Let’s go over each team’s situation for the rest of this season and beyond.
The trade deadline has come and gone with some notable names being shipped to teams that are all in to make a push towards a championship. We have our typical full offering of games for Tuesday, some of which feature players involved in the deadline day deals.
