A little hiccup in the schedule as the normal full Thursday slate has only two games. As a result, we will cover this modest six-gamer and in all likelyhood Friday’s offerings. Tonight the high-event games appear to be as follows: Vancouver at the defensively-challenged L.A. Kings, Edmonton at Columbus, and Florida at Colorado. Let’s hop over the boards and go for a skate, time to make some Ice Picks.
Ten game slates are sometimes hard to decipher. There are many matchups to consider and numbers to sort through. The most important thing is to not play too many lineups because you can’t decide between lines to play or narrow your overall player pool.
Hello everyone, and welcome to the first of many installments of my GPP article for this NHL season. I want to start by saying how grateful I am for these fine people at the Scorecrow to allow me to write for them for football and hockey and that I really want to make some money for myself as well as all the readers this season. I had a couple of near-binks last season, and I am committed to hitting one or two this year, so let’s get to the picks.
The Vancouver Canucks team has been through a tough 4 years. After Henrik and Daniel Sedin retired at the end of the 2017-2018 season, Trevor Linden followed suit at the end of the 2018-2019 season, leaving as president of hockey operations, being replaced by Jim Benning. This is the third time in Canucks’ history they have failed to make the playoffs for four consecutive years. The team has never missed the playoffs for five years consecutively. But all is not dark in Vancouver.
What might set a player like Victor Soderstrom apart from a lot of draftees, is the fact he is a dependable right-handed defenseman. Those sorts of players are certainly hard to come by. With Soderstrom you are getting, more of stay-at-home defensemen, posting just four goals and seven points in 44 games for Brynäs IF last season.
We have six games on the docket this evening. Minnesota Wild at Colorado Avalanche, Washington Capitals at Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes at Vancouver Canucks round out my top three. *Keep in mind, the League will be going on an extended all-star break until Monday, January 28th* Let’s get to it!
The trade deadline is fast approaching for the NHL and teams will be looking to stockpile draft picks or make waves to put themselves over the hump for a potential run in June. Here we take a look at the teams vying for playoff positioning, teams who are looking to rebuild, and what they all should do at the NHL trade deadline.
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Minnesota Wild begin the eight-game Thursday slate at an odd 2 p.m. eastern time with all other games beginning at the more normal 7 p.m. time slot. We will focus our attention on the evening match-ups. Tampa Bay, Washington, and the Vancouver/Montreal game are all good spots to build your roster. As the calendar flips over to 2019, the NHL season is heating up, and the division races are getting closer. One division that is tightly contested as we head into the new year is the Pacific Division. In our analysis of each division, it’s time to take a look at the Pacific Division.
