Another game. Another win. The Miami Heat took care of business Saturday by defeating the short-handed New Orleans Pelicans 109-94. The victory pushes the Heat record to 9-3, tying their best start in franchise history.
Another week of the NFL has passed and with the trade deadline headlining most of this week, it’s time to turn our attention back to what we saw over the weekend. Several offensive young guns have emerged back onto the scene and several defensive studs have continued their early dominance. One player is even making a case for Defensive Player of the Year. Who rose up to the challenge? Who fell short? Find out in this week’s edition of the Rookie Rankings. As always, let’s start with a couple of honorable mentions.
Danny Podolsky previews the two NBA Opening Night contests.
Danny Podolsky explains why New Orleans Pelicans rookie Jaxson Hayes will have a far better career than Zion Williamson.
Another day, another division preview! The start of the regular season is almost here. T-minus less than two weeks! Are you excited? I’m excited. In fact, I think this could be the most interesting season for both players and for fans. So many teams switched up their rosters in a drastic way and that can only mean one thing: there’s going to be plenty of drama.
The New Orleans Pelicans’ G League affiliate, the Erie BayHawks – not to be confused with the Atlanta Hawks’ G League affiliate from last year, the Erie BayHawks, who are now known as the College Park Skyhawks, or the Orlando Magic’s G League affiliate from three years ago and prior, the Erie BayHawks, who are now the Lakeland Magic – held their expansion draft yesterday, and it raised some questions when it was revealed that they selected Trey Burke.

The Memphis Grizzlies won the Summer League Championship last night over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Grizzlies rookie Brandon Clarke took home
Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, and Josh Hart were traded to the New Orleans Pelicans a few months ago for Anthony Davis.
Brandon Ingram is the best talent out of those three players, and he’s proven it with the Lakers. In the last six games before getting injured, post-All-Star break, Ingram averaged 28.9 points per game, as a second option on the offensive end. If the Pelicans utilize Ingram correctly, he could be a special player, and one they would regret trading.
Julius Randle is in agreement with the New York Knicks on a three-year, $63 million deal, writes Andersen Pickard.
Davis averaged a double-double this year with 26 and 12 trying to win games for the Pelicans. However, Anthony Davis also had to do what’s best for him by refusing to play in a lot of games for the Pelicans to risk any type of health problem. The Pelicans started out the season well, but eventually, the grueling Western Conference schedule caught up to them and they started losing a lot of games.
