For the first time since 2010, the Cleveland Browns finally can say that they are not the worst team in the AFC North. Finishing 7-8-1 last year gave them third place in their division and their best record since 2014 (7-9). While this was partly due to the firing of former Head Coach Hue Jackson, and former Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley, we need to give a lot of credit to Baker Mayfield. Baker took the league by storm starting in Week 3 against the New York Jets. Now the number one overall pick from the 2018 NFL Draft is in the running for Most Valuable Player. Should we believe the hype? Whenever there is a question about a guy’s on-field performance, the best answer is to turn to the film, and that is exactly what we did to answer the question of whether or not we should believe the hype around Baker Mayfield.

It started with the untimely and unexpected death of Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs and ended with the news that former New England Patriots linebacker and current ESPN analyst Tedy Bruschi had suffered a second stroke. His first occurred in February 2005 during the offseason.

The news of the unexpected passing of the Los Angeles Angels’ starting pitcher Tyler Skaggs rocked the sports world late Monday afternoon. An autopsy was to be performed today, but it may take some time before a cause of death is officially determined. As of the time the notification was made it was made clear that foul play and suicide did not appear to be the reason for his unexpected passing.

As summer begins each year, the risk from heat-related illness heats up as the mercury rises. On average over the last 20 years, 3 football players have died from heat-related illness. Most of these have been high school athletes, but it has happened at all levels of football as well as other sports. In 2001, Korey Stringer, an offensive lineman for the Minnesota Vikings died from complications related to heat stroke during training camp. Following his death, Korey’s wife worked to bring the message about heat stroke to as wide an audience as possible. In 2010 the Korey Stringer Institute was founded at the University of Connecticut with the goal of increasing the research on and reducing the risks of Heat Stroke.
