The Los Angeles Lakers started last week off on a strong note, defeating the Mavericks in Dallas, 107-97. Then they defeated the Detroit Pistons in LA, 113-100, with Kyle Kuzma scoring 41 points in 29 minutes. They hit a roadblock in Utah, losing that game, 113-95. On Sunday night, they hosted the Cleveland Cavaliers; this game should have been a win, but, the Lakers lost this game, 101-95. They finished the week off with a 2-2 record. It should’ve very well been a 3-1 record after taking care of business in Dallas and against the Pistons.

Tonight, the Los Angeles Lakers will be traveling to Salt Lake City, Utah to take on the Jazz in what should be an exciting matchup. Currently, the eight teams holding playoff spots in the West are separated by only 5.5 games and a win for either team could play a big role in the Western Conference playoff race. The Lakers and Jazz hold the 8th and 9th playoff spots in the conference and are only separated by two games.

In the past, I’ve heard people debating this when it was a hot topic. Is LeBron James really more than an athlete or not? About a year ago, ESPN broadcast journalist, Carry Champion interviewed LeBron James and Kevin Durant. Carry Champion told LeBron “you’re talking about hate and crime, we are at a watershed moment in this country and we cannot deny that we are very divided especially in the political arena. How do you describe the climate for an athlete with the platform nowadays that want to talk about what’s happening in our world?” LeBron went on to say the President is “someone who doesn’t understand the people—and really don’t give a [****] about the people.”

Denver was victorious when the sides played each other in preseason, however. Poorly timed turnovers and fouls late in the game gave them just enough to escape with a 113-111 win.
