You know the rules: Well forget those. This week I’m giving you the seven best hitters of the first half
The baseball season is a grind. It’s every single day. We will approach DFS the same way and be winners at the end of the season even if we have our hot streaks and slumps. Every day there are safe bets that flop and values that hit big, but we need to stick with our strategy in evaluating and playing. Let’s take a look at what we have today.
Chicago White Sox
Outfield – Eloy Jiménez – 6yrs $43 Million
Before contract: .000 AVG, Average Home Runs Per Season, 0 Average RBI Per Season 0
After contract 2019: .253 AVG, Home Runs Per Season 12, Average RBI Per Season 29 RBI
The White Sox gave Jiménez a contract without ever stepping onto a major field. They have a lot of promise in the Dominican slugger, but the start of his career has not met expectations. Currently sitting at a -0.1 WAR his 28.4% strikeout rate is highest of any his professional seasons, and his .479 since his 2015 season in Class A.
The weekend kicks off Friday night with a nice main slate schedule of 15 games. The pitching landscape appears to be full of great choices to pay up for so if that’s the route you take finding the right combinations of lower-priced options could be key. The Baltimore Orioles will make their first pick tonight to start off the First-Year Player Draft. The number of picks varies from the Arizona Diamondbacks having four in the first 34 to the Boston Red Sox not picking until #43. There are many things for teams to consider when deciding who to take. Signability based on commitment and/or bonus pool money is a key. Teams shouldn’t and generally don’t draft to need as in other sports because a need today may not be one a few years down the line when these kids will be ready to hit the Show. He is the son of former major league pitcher Bobby Witt, who pitched for the Texas Rangers, Oakland Athletics, Florida Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Cleveland Indians, and Arizona Diamondbacks. He is currently committed to Oklahoma University.
This article is for the all-day slate starting at 2:10, but if you only plan on playing the five-game slate starting at 7:05, I have tips for you as well. Also, some of the lineups aren’t released yet, so be sure to check that they are before submitting.
We have some afternoon baseball today as well as evening games. For this write up the matinees as well as the evening games will all be included. Games start at 1:00 Eastern so be sure to submit your entries on time. No real threat of rainouts other than a possibility of light rain in the Blue Jays and White Sox tilt at Progressive Field. After making it to the World Series in back to back years and winning the World Series in 2015, the Royals have found themselves needing to reboot. Being a smaller market team, it’s tough for them to pay boatloads of money in free agency. That makes it essential for them to take advantage of their player development system. If they can get some of the younger guys correct that won’t cost them as much money, they can be legitimate contenders again.
