The penultimate round of AMA Pro Motocross took things to the outskirts of Indianapolis and Ironman MX. Once the finale for a half-dozen-year stretch, the facility has since bounced around the final third of the schedule, but still remains the final east coast venue.
Getting to the second part of our 450 Class Motocross preview, there are still several championship-caliber riders to touch base on. Star Yamaha most notably is sending out the All-Star trio of Eli Tomac, Christian Craig, and defending Champion Dylan Ferrandis.
18 weeks have flown by and this year’s Monster Energy Supercross season is now over. Last night Salt Lake City closed things out for the third consecutive year, and only the first time they have had just one round.
This weekend, Supercross takes place on the east coast for the final time of the season. The location; Gillette Stadium in Foxborough Massachusetts, which is just the third time ever Supercross will take place at the current home of the New England Patriots.
After the madness that happened last weekend in Detroit, Supercross made its annual stop to the racing capital of the world in Indianapolis. Eli Tomac entered Saturday in complete control of the 450 points race, up over 40 points on second place.
Dating back to 2016, the rider who had won Round 3 of Monster Energy Supercross has gone on to win the 450 title five times. Going further back, 15 times has the Round 3 winner won the title dating back to 2003.
Supercross shifts from So-Cal to Nor-Cal for the week, as Oakland returns to the schedule. Last week it was Ken Roczen and Christian Craig lighting the candles in Anaheim to kick things off.
2021 is now officially in the books, and that means the upcoming season of Monster Energy Supercross begins in just a matter of days. A new year will bring back some normalcy to the ordeal as well.
Justin Barcia more or less made his way onto the AMA GasGas operation by way of a ‘trade’ with Yamaha involving then amateur rider Nate Thrasher. Since moving on from the old Monster Yamaha Factory Team, Barcia has been terrific with GasGas.
As first reported on by Racer X’s Mitch Kendra, the Team USA entry for the 2021 Motocross Des Nations is officially dead. This large in part due to new COVID-related travel restrictions put in place all across Europe.
The GasGas’ paddock will be notably empty for this upcoming weekend in central New York. In a pair of separate incidents, Justin Barcia and Michael Mosiman both hit the deck in midweek practice sessions. As a result, both riders will miss Unadilla this weekend.
Millville is a consistently great presence on the AMA Pro Motocross schedule and 2021 was no different. A pair of first-time winners this season highlighted some spectacular racing on one of the world’s premier tracks in Minnesota. On top of a change at the top of the 250 pecking order, and an injury scare for a 450 title contender averted with a strong Moto 2.
