The story of the second week of the NFL season was the continued re-shuffling of the elite fantasy quarterbacks, with upstarts like Lamar Jackson and Dak Prescott establishing themselves within the top tier. Let’s see what they have in store for week three!
In the last part of this series, we talked about the position along the defensive line. Now, we are on to Part 2: defensive coverages.
There are two basic straight forward coverages responsibilities in football. Man is when you’re covering a particular player and zone is when a defensive back or linebacker is responsible for a particular area of the field or “zone.” However, what about the precise defensive calls?
This season was one for the ages. I have been playing fantasy football since 2003 and I can safely say that 2018 was the craziest one yet. Whether you drafted Le’Veon Bell number one overall, or Leonard Fournette at the back of the first round, or if you were lucky enough to buy into the Phillip Lindsay hype after Week 1, no one can say that this season was not exciting.
Has anyone noticed that my “boom” plays go boom a week or two after I feature them? So unfortunate in the timing. Albert Wilson, c’mon man! Went off this past week. And don’t even get me started on Mason Crosby. Recommended him last week, and he saw plenty of opportunities and missed everything. If he hit all 6 of his kicks including his extra point attempt he would’ve had 21 points. 21. From a kicker. Then he goes and scores 17 against the Niners the next week.
It’s the weekend! Time to set those lineups. Hopefully, you have Drew Brees on your team. That would bring you here to check out my streamer options. But also, congrats for having the best fantasy quarterback come year end. Matt Stafford is also on a bye. In the next six weeks there will be a need to stream, so tell your friends where you got your streaming options. Or don’t – if you want them to lose their matchup.
Week 3 brought us the emergence of Baker Mayfield in Cleveland. He led the Browns to a comeback victory over the New York Jets and Sam Darnold. Baker won the first battle of many between the top two quarterbacks of the 2018 draft and looked damn good in relief of Tyrod Taylor. The fantasy quarterback battle of the century between Big Ben and Ryan Fitzpatrick did not disappoint at all and the Rams look like the team to beat this year and are a complete fantasy juggernaut. Oh yeah, and the Bills beat the Vikings in Minnesota.
Week 3 is upon us. The football season has been crazy so far. Ryan Fitzpatrick leads the league in fantasy points, Matt Breida leads the league in rush yards and Desean Jackson is the receiving king through two weeks of play. If you play the strategy of streaming a QB, it has paid off well thus far as there have been plenty of quarterbacks outside of the top 12 weekly rankings that have performed very highly. Performances like Blake Bortles’ explosion for 30+ fantasy points against the Patriots last week secure confidence in streaming week in and week out.
Hope everybody’s Week 1 went according to plan and you secured that win. We are back again with streaming options for QB, TE, D/ST and I’ll be including my kicker pickup of the week. Plus some deep “boom” plays at running back and wide receiver for Week 2 if you’re looking for a lottery ticket.
