The Kansas City Royals have a farm system that is loaded with top-tier college arms, with several looking to get their first crack at the big league rotation this season. From top to bottom, the Royals have a top 15 farm system and with some breakouts this season, they could move higher. This top five includes two promising bats and three of the aforementioned college arms.
The Kansas City Royals finished the season 59-103. While they weren’t in the basement of the American League Central, they did have the fourth-worst record in the Major Leagues. This bodes well as they will have the fourth pick in the Amateur Draft come June of 2020. The Royals are going to need prospects like that to pan out if they hope to reach the pinnacle of the sport as they did just four years ago.
After making it to the World Series in back to back years and winning the World Series in 2015, the Royals have found themselves needing to reboot. Being a smaller market team, it’s tough for them to pay boatloads of money in free agency. That makes it essential for them to take advantage of their player development system. If they can get some of the younger guys correct that won’t cost them as much money, they can be legitimate contenders again.
