The baseball season is a grind. It’s every single day. We will approach DFS the same way and be winners at the end of the season even if we have our hot streaks and slumps. Next week I will put up my season numbers and will track them as we go along. For today though, let’s dive right in.
Every Tuesday or Wednesday we will take a look at the history of one team. You will get some background, iconic players and moments, and postseason results. This week, let’s take a look at the Athletics, better known as the A’s, who have moved around a few times in their 118-year history.
Well, hope you all had a great Jackie Robinson Day and were able to make some money last night. I hope you played Christian Yelich. I also hope you didn’t play either of the pitchers I mentioned. That might be the last time I roster Kikuchi and who knows about Cahill. Either way, the best part about MLB DFS is we get to bounce-back the next day. So, that’s exactly what we’ll do. Let’s take a look at what’s in store for tonight’s huge 13-game slate.
Not too long ago Dominic Smith was a first-round draft pick by the New York Mets. In 2013 the Mets selected him 11th overall. In six seasons in the minors, Dom slashed .296/.361/.426. He and the Mets both expected him to take over the first base job for the Mets on a daily basis. Then reality hit, Dom struggled, and the Mets were again left with a question mark for an everyday productive first baseman.
With one out in the 8th inning at Oracle Park in San Francisco, German Marquez came set and threw to the plate against Evan Longoria. Longoria hit a ground ball to the left side of the infield, and despite a diving effort from third-baseman Nolan Arenado, the ball made its way into left field, breaking up Marquez’s no-hit bid.
Clayton Kershaw is BACK! Yasiel Puig will be back in LA for the first time since being traded to the Cincinnati Reds, along with Matt Kemp, Kyle Farmer, and Alex Wood.
Clayton Kershaw is the best pitcher in this generation and possibly can become the greatest pitcher of All-Time once it’s all said and done.
Trevor Richards may have a 5.0 BB/9, but he is currently sporting a 14.7% swinging strike rate (10th in MLB) and a 32.4% o-swing (29th in MLB), which is well above the league average of 29.3%. He also has a 68.2% contact rate, which is the 9th lowest in the league and has yielded 11, 13 and 18 swinging strikes in his last 3 starts. Opposing batters are currently hitting .088 against his changeup, which has resulted in a 23.3% swinging strike rate. Pair this with 2 struggling offenses in the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals, paired with a home pitchers park, Trevor Richards should be in for a solid Week 3.
