According to the White House, President Donald Trump will participate in a conference call with all major sports commissioners today at noon.
The call participants will include commissioners, presidents, and executivess from many major sports leagues, including Adam Silver (NBA), Roger Goodell (NFL), Cathy Engelbert (WNBA), Rob Manfred (MLB), Gary Bettman (NHL), Jay Monahan (PGA Tour), Dana White (UFC), and Vince McMahon (XFL and WWE).
Representatives from NASCAR and MLS will also be present.
There is one surprising omission from the call, however, as there will be no representation from the NCAA.
The meeting is being held to discuss the coronavirus, of course, and fans should expect a few possible outcomes.
One possibility is that Trump will urge all major sports to remain at a standstill for an even longer period of time than originally assumed as the country and the world continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic.
The second possibility, which is a polar opposite of the first idea, is that Trump and the leagues’ representation will deem collectively that they may slowly restart their respective operations, whether it be continuing their season or getting their season started. Such a decision will include restrictions, such as banning fans and nonessential employees from facilities.
It will be interesting to monitor the outcome of this call as the leagues meet with the nation’s decision-maker who continues to keep tabs on the forecast on this pandemic.
