Joel Dorcas | October 19th, 2019

Saturday night is always a big night in NHL and tonight is no different. We have nine games on the docket, the following are ones that have high probabilities of offensive production: Colorado at Tampa Bay, Florida at Nashville, Calgary at Los Angeles and Pittsburgh hosting Vegas. Buffalo at San Jose and Boston at Toronto have appeal as well. Let’s break it down and find out who makes the cut for this installment of Ice Picks.

CORE MUST-HAVES

Steven Stamkos W TB $7,000

The high-powered Tampa Bay Lightning are looking more like the dominant offensive juggernaut they were last season of late with a 4-3 shootout victory on the road versus the Bruins. They managed to go 3-2-1 on the road trip. Stamkos has been the Lightnings most consistent offensive producer, he has eight points in his last five games logging nearly 20 minutes of ice time per game. Last season versus the Avalanche, Stammer’ notched five points in two games.

Brayden Point C TB $6,800

Point looks to be in fine form since returning to the lineup after being out due to hip surgery. He has three goals and two assists in four games after the missed time. The head-to-head is in Tampa’s favor as they have won the last five contests. The last time these two met, the Lightning stomped the Avs 7-1 December 8th, 2018. Back up goalie Pavel Francouz is likely to get the start in the second of back-to-backs.

Elias Lindholm W CGY $5,800

The Flames look to continue to beat up on lower-tiered teams after beating Detroit 5-1 and Philly 3-1 in their last two games. The Kings rank dead last in goals against per game with a mark of 4.43. These two teams combined for seven goals October 8th in a rare Kings victory, 4-3 in overtime. The Kings are a mess defensively as they are 23rd in scoring chances against and last in high danger chances against. Lindholm is featured on the first unit on both five-on-five and powerplay situations. He has four goals and 15 shots on net in his last five games.

VALUE PLAYS

Calle Jarnkrok W NSH $3,300

Florida and Nashville could be a fun one with lots of goals. Nashville is first in the league averaging 4.29 per contest. The Panthers yield 3.86 goals against per game, 26th in the league. As of this writing, Filip Forsberg is still considered injured and as per dailyfaceoff.com, Jankrok gets the bump up to first-line and 1st unit powerplay. On the season, Jarnkrok has pitched in for five points and 14 shots. This is a great play as Jarnkrok gets a crack to play more minutes on a team that is now considered a top-flight offense.

Kyle Turris C NSH $2,800

Another player that will get more opportunities potentially is Kyle Turris. Turris who has made the most of his limited ice time(five pts in seven games) now projects to play on the second line on both five-on-five and the powerplay. The Predators are the number one team in the league in high danger chances. Conversely, the Panthers are 22nd in high danger chances given up.

Zach Aston-Reese W PIT $3,800

There is a lot of value plays on the Penguins roster as they are getting scoring from multiple players while a good chunk of their more dynamic players remains injured. Players such as Domik Simon and Aston-Reese are nice cheap options. Reese is the slightly more productive of the two over the last five games as he has produced four points and 12 shots on goal.

STACK ‘EM

  1. Tampa Bay Lightning  –Point(C), Stamkos(W), Shattenkirk(D), Kucherov(W)
  2. Nashville Predators  -Jarnkrok(W), Turris(W), Jossi(D), Duchene(C)
  3. Calgary Flames  -Lindholm(W), Giordano(D), Tkachuk(W), Gaudreau(W)
