Keeping up With Jack Studnicka

Jack Studnicka who was selected 53rd overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, is performing well in the OHL. The young centerman recorded 18 goals, 34 assists for 52 points in 64 games with the Oshawa Generals in his sophomore season. He led the Generals in their playoff run recording a total of five goals, 12 assists for 17 points in 11 games played.

Studnicka, a natural center who could potentially slide over to the right wing, is a two-way player that possesses a dual threat in both the offensive and defensive zones. The Tecumseh, Ontario native had a strong showing during the prospect challenge and the off-season games. Studnicka was part of the first wave of cuts by the Bruins but didn’t let that get to him.

Upon his return to the Generals, he was named captain and started his campaign with nine points in five games. The 6-foot-1 centerman has recorded six goals, 15 assists for 21 points in 23 contest. His ability to play on and off the puck on both ends of the ice earned him an invitation to Team OHL’s roster for the CIBC Canada Russia Series.

With recent struggle that Boston Bruins are dealing with down the middle, it might be worth keeping an eye on Studnicka as he is currently sitting at 55% faceoff win rate. Bruins fan should expect this prospect to be a great defensive centerman that would kill penalties like Chris Kelly did for the Bruins. In past interviews, Studnicka said that he models his game after Tyler Bozak which wouldn’t be bad as the third man down the middle down the line.
