Fantasy Football Buy and Sell Advice: Week 9

Fantasy Football Buy and Sell Advice: Week 9

With trade deadlines approaching for most leagues, here are some players you should look to buy and sell heading into Week 9.

Quarterback

Buy

Lamar Jackson

Make no mistake, Lamar has been extremely disappointing so far this year. This is a buy that should pan out in the playoffs. Looking ahead to Jackson’s Week 13-16 matchups, he is set to face Dallas, Cleveland, Jacksonville and the Giants. That is about as salivating a postseason schedule as you can get. Take a chance on Jackson now with optimism that he’ll figure things out come playoff time.

Sell

Josh Allen

Speaking of struggling quarterbacks, Allen has been in a funk for quite some time, failing to score over 18 points in each of his last four games. His playoff schedule is much more challenging than Jackson’s; Allen faces San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Denver, and New England in Weeks 13-16. With no evidence that a turnaround is coming, it is best to sell Allen as you prepare for a postseason run.

Running Back

Buy

Leonard Fournette

Fournette is the ideal buy-low candidate this week. After Ronald Jones fumbled against the Giants (and was subsequently benched), Fournette took over as the lead back, out-touching Jones 18-11. Bruce Arians has always held Jones on a short leash, and now it appears Fournette, a better fit for the system, will get the majority of backfield touches moving forward. He didn’t produce up to expectations last week, but he should in the future if he receives 15-plus touches in that offense.

Sell

Nyheim Hines

With Jonathan Taylor dealing with an ankle injury, Hines exploded for two touchdowns and 21.2 PPR points against the Detroit Lions. We have seen this before from Hines, though. He dominated in Week 1 against the Jaguars, and then disappeared for six games before breaking out again last week. Taylor — whose ankle injury does not appear to be serious — is still the guy in Indianapolis. Sell Hines while his value is high.

Wide Receiver

Buy

DeVante Parker

The Miami Dolphins’ defense dominated the Rams in Tua Tagovailoa’s starting debut on Sunday, and as a result the rookie didn’t have to do much to win. That will not be the case this week against the Cardinals. Expect Tua to throw a lot more than 22 times this weekend, and he should look to his top target Parker a fair amount. This is the perfect time to buy low on the Dolphins’ veteran receiver.

Sell

Mike Evans

Evans produced exactly the performance necessary to sell him high, racking up five catches for 55 yards and a touchdown. With Antonio Brown set to make his debut this week, Chris Godwin eventually returning, and Rob Gronkowski coming around to an elite level, there just won’t be enough targets to go around for Evans to consistently produce. Sell him high while you have the chance.

Tight End

Buy

Mark Andrews

The reasoning for buying Andrews is similar to the case for Lamar Jackson. With Jackson currently struggling, his tight end hasn’t received many opportunities to produce. However, with the enticing playoff schedule nearing, expect Lamar to figure things out. Once he does, he’ll look to Andrews as his clear top target on a more consistent basis.

Sell

Tyler Higbee

Higbee truthers, look away. The Rams tight end just hasn’t been as effective as most were hoping, scoring over 10 points in just one game this year. To make matters worse, Gerald Everett has been far more effective over the last two games, setting him up to receive a larger workload moving forward. There are just too many weapons in this Rams offense to consistently trust Higbee in your lineups.
