Column: Jameis Winston is Delusional

In sports, there are constant debates about who is the G.O.A.T., or greatest of all time in each respective sport. New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston believes that he’s one of the best quarterbacks of all time.

“I know what I’m worth,” Winston said to Tyler Dunne of Bleacher Report. “And I know day-in and day-out, without publicly coming in and saying it, that historically I’m one of the best quarterbacks to play the game.”

Winston isn’t even close to being one of the best quarterbacks to ever play. The best quarterbacks in NFL history, including Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, have all won championships and been MVPs. Winston hasn’t done any of that yet. He can’t be one of the best when other greats have done so more than him.

Winston is a good quarterback. He definitely was in the top 10 when it comes to quarterbacks last season due to his stats. But he’s got some work to do if he wants to be one of the best. Last year he threw for 5,109 yards, leading the NFL, but totaled 30 touchdowns and a whopping 30 interceptions. However, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers never made the playoffs with Winston, and he left Tampa with a 28-42 record at the Bucs’ helm.

Winston might not even play at all during the 2020 season. He was released by the Buccaneers after they signed Tom Brady. He signed with the Saints and will be Drew Brees’ backup. If he was one of the best, then he definitely wouldn’t be a backup quarterback right now.

Can Winston be one of the best? Yes, he could be, and he says that his career is far from over.

“My entire life, I’ve been a winner. Little League football. Middle school. High school. College. Obviously, the NFL is a little more difficult. But I’ve been a winner. I don’t want to be viewed as a loser. It’s going to come. It’s going to happen. This is something I’ve been fighting for my entire life. Building up to this,” Winston said.

Winston still has potential but saying he is one of the greatest is ludicrous.

Jameis you are going to have to start winning MVPs and championships if you want to be one of the best. So you better get to work.
