Who would have thought the best player the Marlins traded last year would be Christian Yelich? Safe to say since moving to the mid-west, he has become a marquee superstar. He began the week by doing something he already did this season: beat up the Cardinals. April 15th, he had three home runs against the red birds, added another the next night, giving him eight total in five consecutive games. Don’t worry St., Louis; he doesn’t save his power just for you, Yelich added four more homers, including his second multi-home run game of the week against the Dodgers, giving him on eight for the week and 16 RBI.

The Braves bullpen is in desperate need of help, holding a 5.17 ERA, allowing almost six walks per nine, and allowing a .297 batting average on balls in play (BABIP) in 62.2 innings pitched this season. The Braves have also lost their closer, Arodys Vizcaino, to season-ending shoulder surgery, which opens the door even more for them to look internally and externally for improvements on the bullpen. What’s an external option, you might ask? Well, it couldn’t be the guy who saved 42 games last year while pitching to a 2.74 and striking out 96 at the age of 30, could it? No way that guy is still a free agent, right? Someone had to have signed him by now, three weeks into the regular season. Well no one has, and Craig Kimbrel is still a free agent, and now is the perfect time for him to return to the team he started with and won the Rookie of the Year with.

After some time away to reconfigure the Stream Machine for in-season matchup data (as well as taking some time off for personal reasons), I’m ready to roll out some new streaming options for the weekend matchups. As I promised earlier, I will do a check in at the end of the month in order to show the kind of stats you can get from your streaming starters. It’s important to remember that this is a season-long project, and early season streaming options are hard to figure out, as we don’t have a representative sample of in-season data until later on. Regardless, here are my picks for the weekend matchups.

Not too long ago Dominic Smith was a first-round draft pick by the New York Mets. In 2013 the Mets selected him 11th overall. In six seasons in the minors, Dom slashed .296/.361/.426. He and the Mets both expected him to take over the first base job for the Mets on a daily basis. Then reality hit, Dom struggled, and the Mets were again left with a question mark for an everyday productive first baseman.
