Deep Dive: Joey Gallo

Today in our series of “Deep Dive” articles, I take a look at Joey Gallo and what has contributed to his success at the plate this season.

Joey Gallo has been known for one thing throughout his short career thus far: power. His career high in batting average was when he hit .209 in 2017. Some people can get away with this over the course of their career, but as a fan of baseball, it can be frustrating when you just need a single to bring it a run and Joey Gallo strikes out on a 57-footer. So far in 2019, it looks as though Joey Gallo put in work during the offseason in order to improve his plate vision.

Josh Bell Off To Historic Start

When Josh Bell first made his MLB debut three years ago, the expectations were sky high. Bell was supposed to anchor the Pirates lineup for years to come and contributed right away. After hitting a career-high twenty-six home runs in 2017 Bell only hit twelve last year. He was inconsistent at times and failed to be the Pirates power threat on a team in dire need. Stream Machine: May 21-23

Rules are around for a reason. I have a few rules when I look at streamer picks, not only for myself but for when I do this article as well. I don’t pick Rockies pitchers. I don’t pick pitchers pitching in Colorado visiting. I typically don’t pick prospects pitching in their first game up unless they’re elite talents facing an excellent matchup. And I don’t pick pitchers coming off of injury unless they’re a number one or two fantasy starter facing an excellent matchup, which you normally wouldn’t get in a streamer option anyway. Well, I decided to pick Steven Matz for us all anyway, and he proceeded to get decimated by the Marlins. THE MARLINS?!? He allowed two runs on five hits and two walks in 3.2 innings pitched, though he at least got six strikeouts out of the ordeal. It just goes to show you, kids: follow the rules, especially the ones you put on yourself. They’re usually there for a reason.
