Rookie Report & Power Rankings: Week One
The preseason has come and gone, and the regular season is just one day away. That not only means the return of regular season NBA basketball, but also the return of the Rookie Report.

It was a tight race for the Atlantic Division championship last season, and the 2019-20 edition is shaping up to be equally as competitive. Well, except for the New York Knicks… My apologies to the Knicks faithful.
Over the weekend it was reported that the recently retired Dwyane Wade would still be involved with NBA basketball in the 2019-20 season.
The 2019 NBA Summer League has ended, and the Rookie Report has returned!
Today I’ll be taking a look at some of the top rookies from this years’ Summer League. While the competition in Summer League isn’t close to what the NBA game has to offer, these games do still serve a purpose (even if it’s just to feed into the fans’ basketball addictions).
The Los Angeles Lakers have signed Jared Dudley and Quinn Cook. Dudley and the Lakers have agreed to a one-year, $2.6 million deal. Cook has agreed to a two-year, $6 million deal.
In the most surprising move of the NBA offseason, restricted free agent D’Angelo Russell is now a Golden State Warrior. In addition to the Warriors and Brooklyn Nets, the sign-and-trade deal also includes the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The 2019 NBA offseason has already become one with widespread ramifications, and free agency has yet to begin.
The New Orleans Pelicans and Los Angeles Lakers got things started when they agreed in principle to a trade that will send all-star big man Anthony Davis to Hollywood.
Although, the trade felt anti-climatic in a way. The Lakers have long been enamored with Anthony Davis, and they were finally able to land him after a tumultuous trade deadline. As a result, the Pelicans acquired some of the most intriguing young talents the league has to offer in the form of Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram.
Corey Maggette was a hyper-athletic wing player that feasted on his ability to get the basket, draw contact, and ultimately the free throw line. This would not only help become a perennial scorer during his time in the NBA but also lead to him earning one of the more interesting nicknames in sports history.
Last Tuesdays Draft Lottery helped give a better idea of what this NBA offseason will look like for the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls had high hopes of landing one of the first two picks in the 2019 draft but, unfortunately, the ping pong balls did not bounce their way as they were projected to grab the fourth slot. However, they found themselves with the seventh overall selection. That’s an unfortunate fall when you look at what Chicago is missing out on, one Zion Williamson and one Ja Morant. Either player would have been a key piece in a rebuild that has been marginally successful but is trending in the right direction.
It’s Thursday and you know what that means – time for a throwback article! This week we will be taking a look at the career and legacy of Paul Arizin.
This is a classic battle of offense versus defense. The Utah Jazz play a tough brand of basketball and force the opponent to work hard for 48 minutes. The Houston Rockets have claimed the third seed in the Western Conference thanks to James Harden’s historic season as he looks to become a back-to-back MVP.
The Bucks and Pistons will top off game one of their playoff matchup Sunday night in Milwaukee. The path each team took to get here has been very different. The Bucks have dominated the Eastern Conference from the very start of the season. Whereas, Detroit lost 7 of the final 11 games, just barely making the cut, winning their final two games of the year. While both teams rely on their stars to help them win games, both teams will need steady contributions from others to help them through the playoffs.
