The Los Angeles Lakers have signed Jared Dudley and Quinn Cook. Dudley and the Lakers have agreed to a one-year, $2.6 million deal. Cook has agreed to a two-year, $6 million deal.

Jared Dudley

Jared Dudley will provide immediate help thanks to his penchant for long-range shooting. He is a career 39.2% shooter from three-point range and shot just over 35% from distance for the 2018-19 NBA season.

Not counting his rookie season where he shot 22% from distance, Dudley’s 35% with the Brooklyn Nets is the lowest of his career.

Averaging just over 20 minutes off the bench in Brooklyn, his role will likely remain unchanged with the Lakers.

Los Angeles struggled from beyond the arc hitting on just one-third of their attempts as a team, second to last in the league.

Quinn Cook

Quinn Cook effectively becomes the starting point guard for the Lakers with Lonzo Ball having been shipped out in the Anthony Davis trade. He will also be a reliable shooting option for his new team.

Cook is a career 41.8% shooter from beyond the arc and was a key piece off of the bench during his time in Golden State.

While Cook was not a major contributor in the box score, his presence was certainly felt throughout the locker room. Warriors coach Steve Kerr even cited Cook as “one of the most professional people I’ve ever been around” to the Bay Area News Group in April 2018.

Breakdown

Neither of these players is the superstar type that Lakers’ brass was hoping for, but they do fill a need.

Dudley and Cook will both provide three-point shooting for a team that was void of that ability the previous season.

The Lakers also get a cheap and reliable point guard after losing Lonzo Ball.
