The NBA is now more wide open than ever before.
Early Saturday morning, the Los Angeles Clippers signed Kawhi Leonard and pulled off a trade for Paul George In a move to acquire George, the Clippers gave up Shai-Gilgeous Alexander, Danilo Gallinari, four unprotected first rounders, a protected first rounder, plus two pick swaps. That’s a lot to give up, but if you have a chance to land Leonard and George, you do it.
Last summer, DeMarcus Cousins gambled on himself by accepting the Golden State Warriors’ $5.3 million mid-level exception in hopes of receiving a big payday this summer. After missing most of this past regular season recovering from his Achilles injury, Cousins returned and played in 30 regular season games. While clearly not in all-star form, Cousins was serviceable as the fourth option on a star-studded Warriors team. During the regular season, he averaged 16.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in 25.7 minutes per game.

It appears the Miami Heat will finally land a star by acquiring Jimmy Butler through a sign and trade. So far, the team will be sending guard Josh Richardson to the Philadelphia 76ers and the Heat will try to move Goran Dragic to a third team. Once the Butler trade is finalized, the Heat will try to land another star. One name that’s been thrown around is Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal.
According to the 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro, the Los Angeles Lakers could target Miami Heat point guard Goran Dragic should they miss out on Kawhi Leonard or D’Angelo Russell.

An important off-season awaits Jimmy Butler, who is an unrestricted free agent. While he hasn’t ruled out a return to the Philadelphia 76ers, the free agent forward will have a conversation with the Miami Heat and the Houston Rockets.
With Dwyane Wade now retired, it’s the younger Miami Heat players’ responsibility to carry the franchise forward. And every single one of them has embraced the challenge. One of those young players, Derrick Jones Jr., has his sights on the Defensive Player of the Year award.
During the post-2019 NBA Draft press conference, Miami Heat president Pat Riley confirmed that Hassan Whiteside will opt in for next season. The Heat center is set to make $27 million next season. Riley also responded to a recent report about the center demanding a trade.
So far, trade discussions between the Memphis Grizzlies and Miami Heat regarding Mike Conley have not gone well. Over the last couple of weeks, the Heat have talks with Grizzlies about the veteran point guard, but according to Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson the talks went nowhere.
As expected, Philadelphia 76ers guard Jimmy Butler will opt out of his $19.8M player-option for next season, as Chris Haynes reported earlier on Friday. He will join the likes of Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving as one of the top free agents on the market. According to Associated Press’ Tim Reynolds, once NBA Free Agency begins, Butler would gladly meet with the Miami Heat.
