So far, trade discussions between the Memphis Grizzlies and Miami Heat regarding Mike Conley have not gone well. Over the last couple of weeks, the Heat have had talks with Grizzlies about the veteran point guard, but according to Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson the talks went nowhere.

The Heat and Memphis Grizzlies had a discussion about a trade involving Mike Conley Jr., but the sides did not see eye-to-eye on trade compensation and the discussions went nowhere, according to a league source

Jackson, later in the piece, wrote that talks could revive later down the road.

Despite missing the playoffs last season, Miami has no interest in rebuilding. The team is more interested in acquiring star talent to make a push in the Eastern Conference standings. The team saw Conley—who’s a great floor general and good defender—as a player who could help them do that. Conley is a borderline All-Star point guard and would be an upgrade over Goran Dragic, who recently opted in his contract for next season. However, Conley does have an injury history and he is set to make $67 million over the next two seasons.

There are no details on what Miami was proposing. Considering that talks went nowhere, it’s very possible Memphis wasn’t interested in receiving Miami’s bad contracts. Since last summer, the Heat have been trying to offload the contracts of Dion Waiters and James Johnson without much success.

The Utah Jazz is currently considered front-runners to land Conley, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported on Monday.

This past season, Conley averaged 21.1 points per game, shot 36.4 percent from three, and 6.4 assists a game. He played in a career-high 70 games.
