2020 NFL Draft: Diamonds in the Rough

In every draft, there are a few prospects who fall through the cracks and aren’t given enough recognition. This article illustrates eight of those prospects who deserved more hype. These are the diamonds in the rough, and I expect most to be drafted in the fourth to the seventh round. Some diamonds in the rough from the 2019 NFL draft include Darius Slayton, Gardner Minshew II, and Maxx Crosby.

Miami Dolphins Post Free Agency Seven Round Mock Draft

The Miami Dolphins finished the season off strong, which was a result of the team’s head coach, Brian Flores. Going forward, this team made significant signings in an effort to speed up the rebuilding window. Notably, the team made considerable signings with Ereck Flowers, Shaq Lawson, Emmanuel Ogbah, Jordan Howard, Kyle Van Noy, and Byron Jones. This team has completely shifted its defense, by adding short term players to high impact positions such as edge, corner, and linebacker.

New York Jets Post Free Agency Seven Round Mock Draft

The New York Jets made substantial additionals in free agency. They have completely redesigned their offensive line, adding the four new starters in Alex Lewis, Greg Van Roten, Connor McGovern, and George Fant while adding depth with interior offensive lineman Josh Andrews. Other notable additions include Breshad Perriman, Patrick Onwuasor, Brian Poole, and Pierre Desir. The free agency period has primarily filled the outstanding needs the team had, mostly being the offensive line. With the departure of Robby Anderson, signing Perriman fills the deep threat role. However, there is still a need for a reliable and dangerous wide receiver. As well, there has been a perennial need at the edge position, but there isn’t the depth in the edge class to fill the need.

Detroit Lions Post Free Agency Seven Round Mock Draft

The Detroit Lions finished in last place in the NFC North Division, but that doesn’t reflect the reality of their situation. The team was competitive for the first six games going 2-3-1, and during this stretch, all of their losses were by four points or less. The Lions were not as bad as their record shows. However going forward, this is a significant offseason for head coach Matt Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn, as both are rumored to be on the hot seat. In short, Patricia and Quinn need to win and be in “meaningful games” during December. To play in the meaningful games in December, the Lions have hit on a few of their nine picks in the 2020 draft.

Arizona Cardinals Post Free Agency Seven Round Mock Draft

The Arizona Cardinals have been very active this offseason, determined to fill the needs on their roster. They’ve brought in an array of defensive talent from free agency including linebacker De’Vondre Campbell, outside linebacker/edge Devon Kennard, and defensive tackle Jordan Phillips. They also had four notable re-signings with running back Kenyan Drake, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, right tackle Marcus Gilbert, and left tackle D.J. Humphries. Going forward, the team looks to have a dynamic offense with the acquisition of star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins (for a second-round pick and running back David Johnson) to go along with the second-year quarterback, Kyler Murray.
