Pete Alonso Wins NL Rookie of the Year

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso has won the National League Rookie of the Year award.

Alonso slashed .260/.358/.583 with 53 home runs and 120 runs batted in. He led the Mets on a late-season run, giving hope to fans for the first time in years. He coined the phrase “LFGM,” a play on “Let’s Go Mets.” Alonso won the award easily.

While Mike Soroka and Fernando Tatis Jr. are good competition, Alonso was far-and-away the clear favorite to the voters, receiving 29 out of 30 of the votes. Pistol Pete established himself to the MLB world as a fan favorite, winning the Home Run Derby and donating the money won to veterans, being selected for and playing in this year’s All-Star Game, and being known as the Polar Bear. Those are all things I would think make for a pretty good year.
