Kevin Kisner was never in serious contention for a captain’s pick at the 2018 Ryder Cup, but some argue he should’ve been.
The South Carolina native is showing that he could be an asset for future teams after he won the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play with a 3 and 2 win over Matt Kuchar.
Kisner’s victory followed a runner-up performance at the same event last year, where he fell in the final to Bubba Watson. Kisner also didn’t lose a match at the 2017 President’s Cup, going 2-0-2.
Kisner could prove to be the US team’s counter to Europe’s match play stalwart Ian Poulter, who Kisner edged in a playoff to advance out of the group stage this year and routed 8 and 6 at last year’s Match Play.
Kisner also defeated Francesco Molinari, who had won 10 straight matches, dating back to a perfect 5-0 showing at the Ryder Cup, in the semifinals.
Fans and media aren’t the only ones thinking that Le Golf National would’ve been a good fit for Kisner, as longtime European Ryder Cup team member Lee Westwood took to Twitter to advocate for the 35-year old.
Kevin Kisner appears to be a very good match play player. I’ll tell you a course that would really have suited him. Le Golf National. @johnhuggan @Dpugh54 @BobEstesPGA @chambleebrandel

US Ryder Cup Captain Jim Furyk and Kisner won’t look back now, but Kisner is proving that the conventional captain’s pick may not always be the best one. Nothing about Kisner’s game is flashy or sexy, all he does is get the job done.
