Stay in your lane, Jimmie Johnson, you are not the only NASCAR driver retiring this year. Thursday night, Clint Bowyer announced that this season will be his last behind the wheel.

Bowyer will be joining the FOX Sports booth as an analyst beginning in 2021.

“Now I get to the point of what I want to tell you,” Bowyer wrote in a letter posted on Twitter. “I have a new opportunity to do what’s next in my life. In 2021 my suit will no longer be fireproof. I will be joining the FOX booth on Sundays. The opportunity to have won races with all three manufacturers is something I’m proud of. Chevrolet, Toyota and Ford all have great people and build great products and all share the same passion to be first on Sunday. It was truly an honor to represent all three.”

He then added, “I want to thank every owner who has paid a bill on my behalf, every crew member who has turned a bolt on my cars and every media member who has covered my racing career. Thank you to every sponsor that has invested in me and thank you to every fan who has cheered me along the way! Opportunity… FOX here I come!”

Bowyer is in his 15th season in the NASCAR Cup Series. He replaced the retired Tony Stewart in the No. 14 car at Stewart-Hass Racing in 2017. Clint has 10 career wins, two with Stewart-Hass. His best season came in 2012 when he had three wins and finished second overall in points. This season, Bowyer has no wins and is 11th in points. He could be eliminated from the playoffs Sunday at the Charlotte Roval.

The retirement of Bowyer is a huge loss for NASCAR. He has a great personality, is a good driver, and is a fan favorite. It’s good that he will still be a part of the sport, working the television broadcasts for FOX. SHR Xfinity Series driver Chase Briscoe, Corey Lajoie, who drives for an SHR-affiliated team, and Kyle Larson could be possible replacements for Bowyer.

Prediction: Chase Briscoe will replace Bowyer in the No. 14 car at SHR in the NASCAR Cup series.
