NFL Week 6 Thursday Night Football Preview - 49ers vs. Seahawks - WR Deebo Samuel Sr.

The divisional matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks never fails to disappoint. No matter how well or poorly these teams are playing, the 49ers and Seahawks always seem to play a good, hard-fought game on national television.

This week, both teams are coming off tough losses against underdog opponents. The 49ers fell to the Cardinals last Sunday as Deebo Samuel Sr. and Jordan Mason both underwhelmed. Seattle, meanwhile, fell at the hands of the Giants, who sealed the game with an athletic field goal block late in the game.

Heading into Week 6, the Seahawks still have a slight grasp on first place in the NFC West, sitting at 3-2. The 49ers and Cardinals are tied for second place at 2-3, but the tiebreaker goes to Arizona based on last week’s head-to-head result.

The winner of Thursday Night Football between the 49ers and Seahawks will secure first place in the NFC West, even if only temporarily.

Despite having a worse record, the 49ers enter Thursday’s game as three-point favorites. That’s not a very large margin, of course, and it speaks to both San Francisco’s talented roster and the propensity of these teams to always play close games against each other.

The total is set at a fair total given that both teams are coming off games with just under 50 points. Cardinals-49ers finished with 47 points while Giants-Seahawks totaled 49.

What To Watch For

For the 49ers, we’re watching their ability to spread the ball around and take advantage of their talented playmakers on offense. Samuel was a non-factor last week and Mason was drastically slowed down by the Cardinals. If San Francisco can get everyone involved on Thursday, they’ll be nearly unstoppable on offense.

San Francisco fans should also pay close attention to the kicking game. Jake Moody is expected to miss time with an ankle sprain, leaving the 49ers scrambling to find a short-term replacement. If the game is close, will the coaching staff have less trust in the replacement kicker than Moody?

Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith has thrown for one touchdown in each of his five games this year. He posted a season-high 72 rushing yards last Sunday, but he also took a whopping seven sacks. Is Smith mobile enough to escape the 49ers’ relentless pass rush?

Finally, fumbling concerns abound with DK Metcalf, who has lost the football twice in the last two weeks. Possessions will be at a premium this week and Seattle can’t afford any turnovers.
