Feuds are continuing to build as WWE prepares for Backlash on June 14. AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan met face-to-face ahead of their contest for the Intercontinental Championship while Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross put their Women’s Tag Team Championships on the line against Sasha Banks and SmackDown Women’s champion, Bayley.
Jeff Hardy and Sheamus exchange words
Hardy described what happened during the car accident last week and said a witness identified the real suspect with red hair and a red beard. Sheamus entered the arena and the two fought as the Celtic Warrior hit a Brogue Kick to his Backlash opponent.
Otis vs. King Corbin
Otis and Mandy Rose found Corbin’s crown backstage before the match, and “Mr. Money in the Bank” donned it on his head. Corbin disqualified himself during the match when he hit Otis with a steel chair, and the latter hit a Caterpillar when he regained momentum.
Lacey Evans vs. Sonya Deville
Deville attacked Evans when the latter entered the arena. Rose appeared on the titantron during the match and distracted Deville from winning her fight as Evans hit The Women’s Right to win.
AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan speak before championship bout
Renee Young interviewed Styles and Bryan ahead of their match for the Intercontinental Championship. Styles called Bryan “stupid” while Bryan said he wanted to win the title fairly instead of taking the bye. Styles then challenged Drew Gulak to a match.
Drew Gulak vs. AJ Styles
Bryan’s friend and coach accepted Styles’s challenge. He rolled up his challenger after countering The Styles Clash to win the match and upset his prospective Intercontinental Championship challenger.
The New Day and Chad Gable vs. Shinsuke Nakamura, Cesaro and Mojo Rawley
Gable was attacked by his challengers backstage and The New Day came to his aid. He was able to fend off Cesaro and Nakamura during the match as Kingston and Big E secured the victory.
Sasha Banks and Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross
SmackDown Women’s Tag Team championship match
Cross quickly got the match started as she charged Bayley. The two teams traded momentum throughout the course of the match and Banks pinned Cross to win the match.
Perhaps focusing on The IIconics in recent weeks took away from preparing for Banks and Bayley, who became the first two-time Women’s Tag Team champions.
