With Butler’s Future Uncertain Patriots Look at Sherman

As if the New England Patriots offseason couldn’t get anymore hectic, reports are now surfacing that the team still has “some interest” in Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman.

Jeff Howe reports that there is a “very real possibility that he could be traded closer to this year’s draft.”

With the Patriots presumably entering the Sherman sweepstakes, a lot of questions are being raised about the future of Malcolm Butler. The Patriots cornerback has yet to sign his tender, and with the April 21st deadline approaching, the team is running out of time to keep the Super Bowl hero.

If the Patriots lose Butler and trade for Sherman, they will absorb his contract and would pay him 14 million for the remaining two years which is one million more than they are paying Stephon Gilmore.

There is mutual interest between the two parties but unless Butler leaves New England, do not expect a deal to bring Sherman to Foxborough.
