Prime Time Sports Talk college football analyst Patrick Weider returns with his 2024 CFB Playoff Bracketology! Which teams are headed for specific seeds in the 2024-25 playoff bracket?

Let’s check out his full analysis.

Top 4 Teams

These teams earn first-round byes.

1. Texas
2. Oregon
3. Miami
4. Iowa State

Weider’s notes:

  • Texas looks legitimate and is the best team in the SEC and the country.
  • Oregon, with its big win over Ohio State, earns the No. 2 seed.
  • Miami is the favorite to win the ACC.
  • Iowa State is 6-0 and continues to defy expectations.

Seeds 8 and 9

Winner of #8 vs. #9 plays #1 (Texas)

8. Penn State
9. Tennessee

  • Penn State got an impressive road win at USC, while Tennessee struggled with Florida. Tennessee did get an ugly win against Florida but has struggled lately.
  • Penn State plays at Wisconsin and home against Ohio State after the bye week, which will largely determine their seeding in the playoffs.
  • Tennessee hosts Alabama this week. Whoever wins that game will have the upper hand in making the playoffs.

Seeds 5 and 12

Winner of #5 vs. #12 plays #4 (Iowa State)

5. Ohio State
12. Boise State

  • I project Ohio State to beat Penn State and Michigan. If they do that and still lose to Oregon in the Big Ten Championship, they will probably make the playoff as the No. 5 seed.
  • Boise State is good and is the favorite to win the Mountain West.

Seeds 6 and 11

Winner of #6 vs. #1 plays #4 (Miami)

6. Alabama
11. Clemson

  • Alabama plays at Tennessee this week. The winner of that game is in the driver’s seat to make a top seed and have a home game.
  • People put Clemson to death after losing to Georgia in Week 1. All they have done since is win every game and look impressive doing it.

Seeds 7 and 10

Winner of #7 vs. #10 plays #2 (Oregon)

7. Georgia
10. Notre Dame

  • Georgia has looked shaky this year, and they play Texas this week. Even if they lose that game, they could win the rest of their games and should have a good chance at making it.
  • Notre Dame has won every game since they lost to NIU. If they win out, they are a lock to make the playoff.
