With seven weeks of the NFL season over, let’s take a look at who the Jets have injured and who is worth monitoring.
Alex Lewis, OL, 39
Lewis has been out for a few weeks now with an AC joint sprain in his shoulder as well as some other shoulder injuries. He will likely be out week 8. In his place this past week was Josh Andrews who has a little trouble protecting Sam Darnold. This was the cause of much of the Jets’ unnecessary pressure against the Bills. Look for rookie Cameron Clark to come in soon and hold down the fort until Lewis is healthy. Clark may even steal the job.
Jamison Crowder, WR, 27
Crowder missed his third game of the year in week seven but the symptom for this week was a groin injury. Adam Gase mentioned that Crowder will be closely monitored this week in practice. Braxton Berrios played in place of Crowder and was lackluster only amassing 1.5 yards per route run compared to the 2.29 of Crowder. The Jets need Crowder’s slot ability in order to improve from their 0-7 record.
Bradley McDougald, S, 29
McDougald was replaced at safety in the middle of the third quarter with what was reported as a shoulder injury. He was listed as likely to return and will be monitored throughout the week. Ashtyn Davis has been playing fairly impressively and is not a bad option to replace McDougald even if healthy. McDougald is ranked at 41.0 which is 84th out of 85 per PFF and Davis is all the way at 66.2 which is 25th among qualifiers. Davis showed very well at strong safety on Sunday and may have won himself a job.
Breshad Perriman, WR, 27
Perriman went down late in the game. It was later revealed that Perriman was in the concussion protocol per Gase. Should Perriman be out, the Jets would potentially only have Denzel Mims as a starting-caliber receiver for week nine. Look for the Jets to activate Lawerence Cager or Josh Malone for week nine. Additionally, Vyncint Smith will hold a much greater role as well as Mims.
Kyle Phillips, DE, 25
Phillips left on a cart early in the game with an ankle injury. He is likely out for a while as he is undergoing ankle surgery per head coach Adam Gase. Bryce Huff has played very well as an undrafted rookie. He had a 12.3% edge pressure rate so far this season. The league average for that is 10.5%. He leads the Jets in that category and played much less than Phillips this season, only playing 41% of the snaps on Sunday. Look for Huff to gain more playing time.
Bryce Hall, CB, 22
The Jets fifth-rounder returned to practice this past week after being out with an ankle injury for the first six weeks of his rookie season. Hall is eligible after week eight and Adam Gase expects him to play then. Hall will provide a boost to an already decent Jets cornerback core which consists of Pierre Desir, Brian Poole, and Blessuan Austin. Look for Hall to star in a couple of weeks.
