Last weekend, a lot of rookies had impressive games. This group listed below is a solid one. The list is headlined by two of the quarterbacks who played great football. A few of the skill position players make the cut once again building on their successful rookie campaigns. Let’s take a look at the 10 best rookies in the Week 7 NFL Rookie Rankings.
10. Jamin Davis, LB, Washington Football Team
This is the first notable performance Washington’s first-round selection had. Davis was very active in his last game. He recorded a total of 11 tackles. Despite the loss, Davis was a bright spot for Washington. He showed his speed and ability to make plays all over the field. This should just be the start for Davis. Anticipate more of a role for him as the season progresses.
9. Nick Bolton, LB, Kansas City Chiefs
Bolton added another stellar performance to his good rookie season. He recorded a total of nine tackles and had one for loss. He is a physical, downhill football player who makes his presence felt. For a Chiefs defense that has struggled tremendously, Bolton stepping up as he did was crucial. It will be exciting to see Bolton compete against Derrick Henry this weekend.
8. Jaylen Waddle, WR, Miami Dolphins
Even though the Dolphins had a disappointing loss, Waddle had a great game. He had 10 catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns. He was integral to the Dolphins passing attack that was very productive. Waddle has earned a good amount of respect based on his play so far. Hopefully, it continues and he makes more big plays down the field as they will be needed for the Dolphins.
7. Khalil Herbert, RB, Chicago Bears
The Bears needed Herbert to step up with basically all of their running backs out and he did just that. On 19 carries, he had 97 yards and one touchdown. He also contributed in the passing game with two catches for 15 yards. He recorded a total of 112 scrimmage yards. Over the last two weeks, Herbert has done some very good things. He will be counted on in a big way again this week with injuries piling up in the backfield.
6. Mac Jones, QB, New England Patriots
The Patriots did not possess the football much in their last game, but when Jones was on the field he had another good game. He threw for 229 yards and had two passing touchdowns against a defense that has been spectacular. He made a big play in a crucial moment. Overall, Jones did his job for the Patriots to win. To this point, he continues to do everything they could ask for from him.
5. Pat Freiermuth, TE, Pittsburgh Steelers
Freiermuth had a big game in one the Steelers had to win to keep their season alive. On seven targets, he had seven receptions for 58 yards. He made timely catches down the stretch helping his team win. He showed why he was such a highly-touted prospect. Freiermuth also had a key block on a big Diontae Johnson run. He is a very talented tight end who could become one of the best.
4. Eric Stokes, CB, Green Bay Packers
Stokes is back on the list after arguably his best NFL game yet. With Jaire Alexander out, the Packers have needed Stokes to elevate his play and he has done that. In an important division game against the Bears, Stokes did his job exceptionally well. He was only targeted three times, all three were completions but only gave up 32 yards. Stokes was hardly looked at in coverage all game, showing what he can do. Stokes is off to a great start.
3. Ja’Marr Chase, WR, Cincinnati Bengals
It was just another game that we have come to expect from Chase only six games into his young career. He made big plays and continues to show his deep-threat ability. Chase had four catches for 97 yards for the Bengals in a big road win. What was arguably his most impressive play was his dominating downfield block which helped Joe Mixon score a big touchdown. Chase continues to be special.
2. Najee Harris, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers
Similar to Chase, Harris had another tremendous game of production as expected. Along with Freiermuth, Harris was key to the Steelers’ needed win. Harris had 24 carries for 81 yards rushing. In the passing game, he was very involved. On seven targets, he had six catches for 46 yards and a touchdown. In total, he recorded 127 scrimmage yards. The Steelers relied on Harris most when they needed it and he delivered. Harris has had a fantastic rookie year.
1. Trevor Lawrence, QB, Jacksonville Jaguars
The first overall pick finally got his first win in the NFL and was big-time for his team. He threw for 319 yards and one touchdown. In this game, Lawrence showed us why he was such a generational talent. He extended plays and made things happen on the move. Lawrence was accurate and executed big plays for the Jaguars. With the game being close at the end, Lawrence stepped up for his team and made some clutch plays. This is just the start for Lawrence, he will continue to build on this great game.
