Too Quick to Blame Farrell?

One month ago, most of Massachusetts and Red Sox nation had skipper John Farrell on a chopping block with the underperformance of the team. Fast forward to today and Boston sits a single game back of the New York Yankees. Let’s face it, everything isn’t all peachy in the clubhouse. A 0-8 slump could spell the end for Farrell, but the fact that the man has managed the team with a terrible Slugging% is pretty amazing. The team went from first in slugging percentage in 2016 to last in May. As of June 15th the team has bumped up its percentage to 17th. The club however managed to stay in the top five in the MLB in average, which is helping tremendously with the lack of power this team is facing.

Some of the blame should be shouldered on the failure from upper management to find a proper replacement to David Ortiz. Hanley Ramirez has been nothing but a disappointment at the plate. It might be a harsh assessment, but given his salary he should be belting the long ball a lot more. Heck, they could of belted the same amount of money Ramirez is making on players like Kendrys Morales or Edwin Encarnacion. Next, to should the blame is the lack luster performance of the third basemen. The Red Sox have started five different third basemen.  That say’s a lot about a manager that keeps on winning despite some gaping hole in the lineup. With injuries to players like Brock Holt and Eduardo Rodriguez might not make or break the team but having them day in and night out would help the team out. The team just might have to pull a trade to get a third basement or a proper replacement for the DH position

The Fans should trust in his managerial skills. Farrell is in position for a reason and it’s because he can do what he does well. The matter of the fact is the team is not clicking on all cylinders. once the team is actually firing on all cylinders the team would be short of unstoppable. With the return of David Price in the starting rotation, it shouldn’t be long until Boston vies for first place in AL East. Hopefully, come October the boys will be back in town with the Commissioner’s Trophy. In the end, keep calm and enjoy the Red Sox.
