On Saturday night, the Miami Heat announced that they suspended Dion Waiters for conduct detrimental to the team. Heat president Pat Riley was quoted as saying the suspension stemmed from “a number of unacceptable incidents this week, culminating with his unprofessional conduct on the bench last night.”
After finishing short of the playoffs last season, Miami Heat President Pat Riley vowed there would be changes. The changes he was referring to was the Heat’s culture. The Heat prides itself on being the most conditioned team in the entire league. Riley believes that slipped last season and it was the reason the Heat missed the postseason.
After jumping from Number 8 to Number 2 in the draft lottery, the Memphis Grizzlies are reportedly zeroing in on guard Ja Morant with the second overall draft pick. With the Grizzlies eyeing Morant, it could mark the end of 12 year veteran guard Mike Conley’s career in Memphis. To clear up more playing time for the rookie point guard, and possibly tank for next year’s draft class, there’s a great chance the Grizzlies will entertain talks for the veteran guard this summer.
Just weeks after being linked to the Lakers vacant front-office position, Pat Riley is back in the news again. This time, according to ESPN’s Stephen A Smith, for giving the Warriors advice. Smith says Riley, among others, advised the Warriors front office executives to re-sign Klay Thompson.
Earlier this month, Los Angeles Lakers legend and President Magic Johnson abruptly stepped down as President of Basketball Operations. Since then, the Lakers have been interviewing coaching candidates to replace the recently fired Luke Walton.
