A tumultuous week for New York Rangers fans continued Wednesday morning as the team announced that David Quinn has been fired as their head coach after three seasons behind the bench.
The NHL is expanding again, and you know what that means; one player from every team (except for the Golden Knights, who are a top-five team!) will prepare to move cities as they join the first class of the Seattle Kraken.
After a grueling final 56 hours, which saw more than 40 players switch cities, the 2021 NHL trade deadline came and went. Some teams were deemed “winners”. Others were deemed “losers”. And some were “on the fence” sporting their best poker faces all day long.

The New York Islanders have been surging. They have won seven straight, losing last on February 27th. That was in overtime against the Penguins, and considering they won the two games prior to that, they have a 10 game point streak and last lost in regulation on February 20th, also against Pittsburgh. They have lost just twice at home, and they were both in overtime. Right now, they sit atop the East division with a 17-6-4 record and a .704 points percentage. At the trade deadline last year, the Boston Bruins biggest moves were acquiring Ondrej Kase and Nick Ritchie. The duo was expected to improve the secondary scoring but failed to make an impact. So far, in 2021, Kase has yet to record a point and is currently dealing with an upper-body injury.
Welcome back to Ice Picks, and thank you to those following along as we try to breakdown these NHL cards. Thursday we split our picks as the Devils, thanks to a 47 save performance by Mackenzie Blackwood, edged out the Rangers. Things were evened out with another supreme goaltending performance as Brian Elliot and the Flyers blanked the Sabres 3-0. Tonight we are going slightly conservative again as we back some favorites. Let’s hop right in pick some winners, time for Ice Picks.
