The New York Rangers are on fire. In a week that should have given the New York Rangers and their fans four home games, sadly, they only got three. Thanks to COVID, the game against the New York Islanders was postponed.
The New York Rangers faced three Eastern Conference teams, and have a three-game winning streak to show for it. In a few of the games, it was almost an “anything you can do, I can do better” type of situation.
Stingy defensive play has become the identity of the New York Islanders, a team who is looking to make it to at least the third round of the playoffs for the third consecutive season. But as their season-opening 13-game road trip ends, the defense is the problem.

The Islanders made the third round of the playoffs in consecutive seasons with a ton of help from their deadline acquisitions. They have had to sacrifice many draft picks because of this, so when the entry draft came this summer, general manager Lou Lamoriello had more time on his hands than most of his counterparts.
The New York Islanders qualified for the playoffs for the third straight season in 2020-2021. Sneaking in after finishing in fourth place in the East Division, the team won 32 games during the NHL’s shortened 56 game season.
The New York Islanders came to within one win of a berth in last year’s Stanley Cup Final losing out to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Like all 32 National Hockey League franchises, the Islanders will look to bolster their team ahead of next season. One way to accomplish such a feat is through free agency.
The hockey season is almost over, with the Stanley Cup semifinals kicking off. Just four teams remain: The Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Vegas Golden Knights. That leaves 28 fanbases to just sit back and watch.
The opening semifinal on Sunday between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the New York Islanders is a best-of-7 rematch from the 2020 Eastern Conference final. Tampa Bay won that match in six games, going on to eventually win the Stanley Cup.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have won the Stanley Cup three times in the Sidney Crosby-Evgeni Malkin era, which is a lot. The last few years, though, are starting to make Penguins fans wonder if some of their years are being wasted.
