For the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, we have the New York Islanders and the Boston Bruins suiting up against each other. The Islanders defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game Six to advance, while the Bruins finished the Washington Capitals off in their Game Five matchup.
It’s the same story for the New York Islanders but in a different year. The playoffs are starting, and the team is being doubted by everyone. It also feels more warranted this year. A post-trade deadline slump saw them lose to the Sabres and the Devils, as they dropped four of their last five games to end the season.
The victory over the Buffalo Sabres gave the Rangers yet another three-game winning streak, keeping playoff hopes alive. However, as the week went on and they faced the New York Islanders for two games, those hopes slowly started to dwindle.
The New York Rangers’ week was looking great until the games started. They had the misfortune of going up against a playoff contender, a team trying to get to the playoffs, and a team at the bottom of the division.
Sports fans rejoice! Spring is in the air! We swept the board on our three picks last time out to bring the overall record to 20-12-1. Let’s continue picking winners for another full Saturday slate for this edition of Ice Picks.

That was in overtime against the Penguins, and considering they won the two games prior to that, they have a 10 game point streak and last lost in regulation on February 20th, also against Pittsburgh. They have lost just twice at home, and they were both in overtime. Right now, they sit atop the East division with a 17-6-4 record and a .704 points percentage. So of course, the Hockey Gods had to try to stop them.
Hope the weekend treated everyone well. Our picks on Saturday weren’t all that great as we went one-for-three. Tristan Jarry of the Penguins surprised me and the Islanders as Pittsburgh narrowly edged out the Isles 3-2. The Wild came threw for us over the Ducks but scored one goal too many to go over the total. On to a new week, let’s dig into Monday’s slate and find some winners.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, there’s no doubt hockey is back. For New York Rangers fans, it’s almost business as usual, with a slow start and inconsistent play from the team.
