2022 MXGP of Sardegna (Italy) Recap
Once again, Italy was the host of an MXGP round, but this time in the sands of Sardegna. Quite the contrast in track surface and atmosphere than last weekend in Maggiora.

After a week’s delay due to some heavy wind damage, MXGP made its season debut in southeast England on Sunday. No Jeffrey Herlings, no Romain Febvre, but there was still plenty of other notable storylines heading into, and leaving Sunday.
With the retirement of European Motocross icon Antonio Cairoli, 2021 was the end of an era for the de Carli Red Bull KTM team. Cairoli had been with the team all the way back when they used Yamahas in the 2000s
It started becoming a matter of if not when the further this season went, but now it is official. Maxime Renaux, the 21-year-old out of France has officially clinched this year’s MX2 World Title two rounds early.
A week removed from the FIM Motocross Des Nations, the final leg of the MXGP season began Sunday at the Teutschenthal circuit in Germany. A number of title contenders such as Tim Gajser, Romain Febvre, then Maxime Renaux in the MX2 class all had some fresh legs after opting out of the team event.
After a number of flyaway round cancelations, six of the final nine rounds of the 2021 MXGP Season are taking place in Italy. That stretch began earlier today on the Mediterranean island of Sardinia.
It was a quick turnaround for the riders in the MXGP Paddock. For what is the only time this season, two Grand Prix’s were scheduled in the span of four days.
After a month-long break, the back nine of this year’s MXGP season kicked off on Sunday in Afyonkarahisar, Turkey. With there being (unofficially) 10 rounds remaining in the season, there is plenty of time for riders to make up ground, or crumble under pressure.
The second quarter of the FIM World Motocross Championship kicked off on Sunday in Belgium. The Lommel circuit may be one of the toughest courses anywhere on the planet, and for certain is the roughest sand track. With schedule changes affecting the imminent event dates, this round is now the penultimate before a nearly month-long break.
The World Motocross Championship tilt is now past the quarter-way mark after the trek to Loket in the Czech Republic. With preseason title contenders Jeffery Herlings now on the shelf and Tom Vialle back on track, another pair of Red Bull KTM riders would take center stage on Sunday. Recap from round five of the 2021 MXGP along with some other tidbits season forthwith.
