Last year the Denver Nuggets were one of the deepest teams in the league. Managing to have the most games lost due to injury of any team in the league and still finishing with the second-best record in the Western Conference is a true testament to that. When they got eliminated from the playoffs, most fans felt like the team was legitimately one or two guys away from being a championship contender. One hole that hasn’t been filled since Carmelo Anthony, and needs to be filled is the starting small forward spot. Thanks to their depth, the Nuggets have seven different options for who can fill the starting and backup small forward role. So let’s go through the potential options.

What a season it has been for both teams. The Nuggets came into the season off a heartbreaking Game 82 loss that kept them out of the playoffs last season. This year, they pushed all the way up to the second-best record in the Western Conference despite being one of the youngest teams in the league and leading the league in games lost due to injury, missing at least one starter for over 60 games this season. The San Antonio Spurs are right in the thick of it as usual, and they did it without having any of the trio of Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker or the “heir apparent” Kawhi Leonard. Despite not having the usual cast, the team has stuck to the same style of play that has kept them among the most consistently good teams in the league over the last 20 years. It was a wild day at the NBA Trade Deadline. Lots of moves were made. The Philadelphia 76ers acquired Tobias Harris, the Toronto Raptors snatched Marc Gasol, and the Los Angeles Lakers did NOT get Anthony Davis, despite an offer that included upwards of six players including key core pieces and multiple first round draft picks. The Denver Nuggets, however, decided not to make a move at the deadline and frankly, it may have been for the best.
