To say that the Browns missing the playoffs is disappointing is a vast understatement. With deep postseason aspirations, Cleveland (7-9) looked like a true contender for the first 30 minutes of the season.
Week 3 of the 2021 NFL season is here. Don’t look now Cleveland Browns fans, but the team is tied for first place in the AFC North.
Did we have an impressive group of rookies in week nine or what? While most weeks we’ve had a few remarkable performances, this past week was full of breakout performances from players we were waiting to go off. While week one saw four pass catchers with 100 or more yards, week nine saw several receivers, running backs, and defensive players alike put up career games. Who stepped up big time? Who thrived under pressure? Find out in this week’s edition of the NFL Rookie Rankings. As always, let’s begin with a couple of honorable mentions.
Another week brings us another set of rookie rankings as we saw a lot of defensive players put up impressive individual performances. While some names find their way back to the top of the leaderboard, several offensive names who got off to hot starts have continued to simmer as the season progresses. Let’s get right into the rankings starting, as always, with a couple of honorable mentions.
Week four of the NFL is behind us and at the quarter mark of the 2019 season, there have been a few surprises. If you had told me before this season that the top two rookie quarterbacks were going to be Gardner Minshew and Daniel Jones, I would have thought you were crazy but here we are. While some household names on offense have struggled, more defensive players were able to make their mark this past week and it was impressive. But that’s enough talk for now, let’s dig into these rankings starting with a couple of honorable mentions.
The Browns were stopped inside the five yard-line four straight times and fell 20-13 to the reigning NFC Champion, Los Angeles Rams. The Browns were missing seven starters, including Denzel Ward, Greedy Williams, Damarious Randall, David Njoku, and Rashard Higgins.
The Cleveland Browns finished the 2018 campaign with a 7-8-1 record. For 99 percent of teams, this would be a season to forget. But when you are 1-31 over your previous two seasons, this is an amazing start to an amazing rebuild.
The Browns rookie class was highlighted by Baker Mayfield, who broke the NFL rookie touchdown record with 27. The Browns also got production from rookies Nick Chubb, Denzel Ward, and Antonio Callaway.
After a loss to Pittsburgh, Hue Jackson and Todd Haley were fired and replaced by Greg Williams and Freddie Kitchens.
During this week’s NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns built up assets to help construct the future of their franchise, writes Brad Tobiassen.
